NHS DOCTOR RAISED A PATIENT SAFETY ALARM IN 2015. TEN YEARS LATER HE IS STILL IN COURT. Dr Chris Day @drcmday is an A&E doctor. He flagged serious patient safety concerns at Woolwich Hospital. Two patients had already died. He did the right thing. So the @NHS did the right thing back. It spent over a million pounds of taxpayer money fighting him through the courts for a decade. The Employment Appeal Tribunal, hearing the final stage of his case in March 2026, ultimately dismissed his appeal and exonerated the trust, even though one of its directors deleted 90,000 emails overnight during a hearing. The court called that "troubling." Then let it go. The trust's chief executive was found to have misled the tribunal about a board meeting that discussed Dr Day's case. Credible witness, said the judge. Only 3% of whistleblowing cases succeed at tribunal. UK law allows employers to make settlements conditional on silence. Revised NHS guidance even permits settlements where the very existence of a deal can be hidden. So the system built a maze. Then charged one doctor over a million pounds to run it. Then blocked every exit. NHS told @wesstreeting it is ashamed of how it treats whistleblowers. Then it paid lawyers to say exactly that, in court, about this specific doctor, right up until March 2026.
