Went up to the forbidden car buying land of Birmingham this evening to purchase this 2008 ‘57’ E66 BMW 730Li SE with the 3.0 i6 N52 under the bonnet. Sapphire Metallic Black with Nasca Natural Brown Leather Comfort seats. A few more annoying things to fix than first expected but the family I bought it from were some of the loveliest people I’ve met. The Dad doesn’t really drive anymore due to his health and had owned this car for the last 12 years, he was genuinely a bit upset to see it go. It is in beautiful condition inside and has one of the best specs I’ve seen on a 7 series of this generation. Oddly one of the only things it doesn’t have is the Logic7 Surround Sound but the standard one is fine for my needs. Unfortunately a steering angle sensor is preventing the Adaptive Cruise control from working and I can’t work out what’s wrong with the night vision camera 😆 Mechanically though it’s absolutely bang on, check the MOT history. It’s done about 500 miles in the last 3 years yet has been MOT and had any servicing works needed in that time. Drove beautifully home, 33MPG over 104 miles and just wafted so well. They have a big fuel tank though, filled it right up with Esso Supreme+ E5 and £146⛽️ I paid as near as makes no difference, the same money for this whole car as it cost to tick the option box back in 2008 to have the full rear seat package pictured below…….£1900.00 🤯

@AutoPap I did this with a new 1 series we bought recently. Came on mid range nexen tyres, had them changed to the correct Bridgestones. Tyre lottery is pretty mad on new cars.

If you buy a Porsche sports car and they come with anything other than Michelin tyres - IMO negotiate a set of them off the asking price. Or reject the car. So annoyed I’ve wasted a year on the wrong bloody tyres.

Today: driving the new Chery Tiggo 4 CSH. Its non-plug-in ‘super hybrid’ system combines a 1.5-litre engine, 1.83kWh battery and single electric motor. Outputs are 204hp and 229lb ft. Prices will start from £19,995 – fully £7,135 less than the cheapest Ford Puma.

So by the end of the year there’ll be Omoda, Jaecoo, Chery and Lepas all launched in the UK, with a load of cars that all cost roughly the same and overlap, do the same thing etc. The Chinese model is to just swamp the market and you know what? It’s starting to work. Average Joe doesn’t give the tiniest of shits about what their car is, they just want cheap monthlies, a factory warranty and cheap running costs. Western car companies were warned about the Japanese manufacturers in the 70’s, ignored it and had their pants taken down. Then in the 90’s they were warned about the Korean brands and ignored it, once again being rinsed by them. And now it’s happening again with the Chinese brands and too late they’re realising they fucked up. One of the big Western car companies will fall pretty soon and it’ll be nobodies fault but their own.

Local Shell have completely skipped changing the price of V Power by 1 or 2 pence and have lumped TWO 5p increments on in a week.... How lovely. 10p a litre added! Staff said same for diesel. I bet it doesn't drop as fast. What a rip off! @AutoPap @ListerLawrence @AAPresident

@Timoldland See so many VAG coming off the docks at Southampton these days and being transported up the M3. Most look well looked after even before they have been through the dealer treatment.

ADVICE NEEDED - Jap imports Looking at Polos for my niece to buy. Have to be DSG, under £8k and Euro 6. The majority for sale are Japanese imports. My question is - what are the downsides to buying/running one? 🤔
