@brian_damage Yes, I think that would save a lot of mucking about, trying to fill those gaps. I’ll make them oversize, then trim all the overhangs off them once it’s all set. 👍

@philwithadrill Instead circular, why not make the top and bottom the same shape as the domes?

I thought I’d try a full-size mock-up of the disc, just to see what it would look like. More cereal packets! 😀 Full size (54.4cm) overhung slightly, 54.2cm fitted better. I don’t like those gaps, so I think I’m going to make them very oversize, then trim them back. #TV21film

@brian_damage It’ll probably just be a bolt or dowel. Just drill a hole and poke it through … as it were.

@philwithadrill Good Mo-dull! What's the pivot going to be made from? Can you make that from fibreglass or will it have to be something like a wooden dowel?

You’ve seen my fantastic “Dire-grams” … let me introduce their 3D equivalent - the “Mo-dull”!! 😂😂😂 This Mo-dull is 1/4 scale and shows the rough locations of the cut-out and pivot point for the arms. I’ve also included the Dire-gram for the general arm design. #TV21film

Starting work on the middle section. Time for a quick Dire-gram (tm) or two. It’s basically two halves of different diameter cylinders, with a ledge top and bottom. Time to take things to the next level … with cereal packets!! 😮 #TV21film

@IcarFaem I’ll tell you in Part 2. It’s a cereal!! 😂 I kill me, sometimes. To actually answer your question, yes - it’s handy for making quick mock-ups … and you get to eat the cereal first! I call that “win-win”! 😀😀😀

@brian_damage Yes, the glue only gets melted, unlike fibreglass, that changes chemically when the catalyst is added. You’d probably need some industrial grade machine to melt and extrude it. I recently saw that something similar can be done with waste 3D prints - chop, melt and re-extrude.

@philwithadrill I wonder if you can somehow recycle hot glue... Melt the bits you've peeled away back into glue sticks.

Shopping flex!! 💪 What did I buy? Cars? Jewels? Designer clothes? No, I got a small sheet of 3.6mm ply and some mounting board. Living the lifestyle. 😂😂😂 Meanwhile, the hot glue is off and I’ve sanded the stabby bits off the inside of the fibreglass. Next!! 😁 #TV21film

There's a white and blue box that feeds and discharges paper computer strips that suddenly gets a lot of use in #DoctorWho in 1973. Planet of the Daleks, The Time Warrior and Invasion of the Dinosaurs. Meanwhile vacuum plastic cupboard panels first seen in The Sea Devils are back

23/3/26 #DoctorWho rewatch Invasion of the Dinosaurs Parts Two - Four. "You've got a warped view of things." This always seems topical. In 2020 deserted streets were like Covid lockdown. Now with a deranged MP persuading the gullible of a Golden age, its Reform (not) in space!

@zoesfeatherboa I believe it even appears in one of the BBC’s Shakespeare productions that they made in the 1970s, painted to look like wood panelling!

@philwithadrill Considering how ubiquitous it becomes in the late 70s, its 2nd appearance is some time after The Mutants. Its such a great pattern

The three Mechanoid lower sections are bonded together. Tomorrow, I’ll remove the hot glue, then that’s those sections officially done! Time to start thinking about the middle section with the arms, now … 🤔🤔🤔 #TV21film

@zoesfeatherboa Somewhere is a giant clam shell. Looks like it was used in Genesis Of The Daleks, the failed Davros experiment that traps Harry’s foot. One thing I keep meaning to get is this triangular pattern - it’s in #doctorwho and (of course!) #blakes7, in particular, Servalan’s office!
