@Perky_43 @BBCNews Meanwhile near where I live a cop crashed into a car going 100mph on a stealth motorbike, killing himself and the car's passenger, and they dragged the completely blameless car driver through court on two counts of death by dangerous driving

@BBCNews I've thought long and hard about this and can see no just reason for him going to prison, it was even against the wishes of the victim's family.

Patients shouldn't be treated by quacks pretending to be doctors. here's a PA: 🚨Refusing prescribed medication 🚨Attempting an invasive procedure multiple times 🚨Allegedly falsifying records This level of negligence is dangerous and should never be tolerated in healthcare.

This is a direct consequence of the GMC refusing to set scope for medically untrained Associates (now assistants post Leng) & precisely why we took them to court This was never an oversight, it was intentional policy to allow the Wild West! This will keep happening 👇

I have a question on this! I love dogs. They are all sweeties and deserve pats and biscuits. How do people rationalize wanting to buy a breed because of inbuilt characteristics “I want a lab because they are loving, I want a jack russel so I can teach it a bunch of tricks!” With also saying “pit bulls are sweeties who would never hurt a fly.” Because aren’t bully breeds raised to fight? Isn’t “pit bull” literally referring to them fighting in pits? How does one contain both ideas? Personally I love bully breeds. I got attacked by a Rhodesian ridgeback when I was a kid, and the first dog I learned to trust again was a boxer named Hime. She was the best little beefy lass. Just curious about the logic that we want designer dogs for traits, but we deny other traits exist?

@phovri I’m saying you gravely misunderstand what makes a dog a herding dog… which were used for bull-baiting…. And I think unruly dogs should be killed, regardless of breed.

@beefjuice2020 It's so great that this is completely true, because that means never having to worry about icky stuff like whether I should be leaving my collie alone inside all day or keeping my husky in with the kittens and rabbits! Really makes you wonder why they bother to breed dogs at all!

A little bit of an implication! You just don’t understand dog breeding and thats alright <3 I get it dogs are scary and it would be really comforting if you could decide “thats a more dangerous dog.” All dogs that aren’t bred, and culled, with personality in mind could have any mix of the traits that we want or don’t want! Like not all live stock guardian dogs will take down a wolf, even in the same litter as one that will.

@Penny_Underbust It's not so much that they are raised to fight - they are bred to fight. The breed was created by combining instincts and traits considered desirable for fighting dogs. They aren't pets. Neither rhodesian ridgebacks nor boxers are bully breeds, btw.

@beefjuice2020 @Penny_Underbust Incorrect. Pitbulls were explicitly and exclusively created for dog-fighting. They were not bred for herding or pulling, and are not descended from any dog breeds associated with herding or pulling. In the majority of serious attacks by pitbulls, the victims are their owners.

@Penny_Underbust They were actually bred for strength and agility! They’re like other terriers meant for pest control!! But with their size also herding and pulling items! People then liked them for fighting because of their loyalty and non aggression toward their handler

The "Pitbull" isn't even an AKC breed, dummy, it's just a term that means a large or medium muscular, short-haired dog with a blocky head that was originally bred from a bull and terrier cross for pit fighting. Also, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and American Bull Terriers were not separate breeds until the 1970s. Look, dog breeds are an inexact science. Outside of "ancient" breeds that developed in fairly closed breeding pools and were geographically isolated (e.g., Akitas, Salukis, Basenji), most dog breeds didn't solidify until the 19th Century. All were eventually specifically bred for certain temperaments and physical traits, whereas people, prior to that, generally bred dogs solely for their usefulness, not adherence to an established breed standard. But unlike breeds like Dalmatians or Pomeranians, the larger bully breeds are a decidedly modern invention, and all derive from pit fighting. They are specifically bred for "gameness," which is their unflagging ability and willingness to persist in a task despite extreme pain, exhaustion, or physical injury. Basically, they're bred for blood sports, and recently at that. So who cares what you call them? They're all bred to kill stuff and kill it without any regard to their own pain. That means that it totally makes sense to count all attacks from this type of dog in a group, regarding of arbitrary AKC definitions, because they've all been bred to behave in this aggressive and dangerous way, just like Heelers are bred to herd cattle.

@King_of_Apex @PrishaMosley "Evil" how most people use the term simply doesn't exist. There is no person who is 100% bad all the time. Conversely, "decent" people do horrible things all the time. To believe otherwise is a fairy tale.

@PrishaMosley Its ok to teach them that there are potential reasons why people are the way they are. Shitty or good. Doesn't mean you have to agree with them or forgive them but humans are rarely just evil pieces of shit just for the sake of being evil

@CentristMadness @1984FucksSake @estherzelda0514 Pitbulls were bred from bulldogs - they're bulldog-terrier mixes. The bloodsports breeders wanted to add those bulldog traits to the gameness/ferocity/tearing bite style of the terrier, that's where pitbulls come from.

@Nate_E_Nate @nonregemesse (2/2) to maximise damage (because terriers were bred to kill things). Bulldogs were bred to be tough, strong and brave (to bait bulls). So crossing these breeds made a dog that is tough, strong, tears when it bites and doesn't give up. Which is exactly what the breeders wanted!

@nonregemesse That whole group of muscular block-headed dogs are prone to biting people. They get grouped together because they all have the same problem. Aggression and bite force. They don't let go till the target dies. Often enough it's women, kids, and the elderly that suffer.
