@pibburns Google is currently digitizing many many books at the British Library. Are they letting you use the images? For example access.bl.uk/item/viewer/ar…

[01] Good afternoon. My name is Philip R. Burns, better known as Pib. I am a developer in Research Computing Services at Northwestern University. I’ve been here since 1974. Today I am going to speak about the Earlyprint Library project. #HCTwitterConf19

@FeinsteinKen Thanks for the kind words. We now have a front page at earlyprint.org .
English

@pibburns Just discovered this project. Incredibly valuable thank you so much for your work on it.
English

@gati_daniella As always, servers go down at the worst time :-{. You can access the (slow) backup server at devtexts.earlyprint.org .
English

@gati_daniella Right now, works of any genre in English from before 1700 -- mostly the TCP EEBO and Evans collections.
English

@tambascot @BadQuartoPlays I will mention your interest to the other members of the project. I hope we can eventually provide a way for multiple independent projects to allow joint searches/views/etc.
English

@pibburns Thank you for sharing this resource. I wasn't previously aware of it, but am excited about it now that I am. If you're looking for contributors at the moment, it sounds like there might be some overlap between your work, and @BadQuartoPlays initiative to create an online archive.

@caitduffy49 Yes, and we have a number of faculty and students right now who perform curation. We intend the platform to be more broadly available for crowd-sourcing as time goes on and it becomes more stable.
English

@gati_daniella Currently we use the existdb database system to store the texts. The user interface is a mix of standard exist code and our custom code.

@annetiquate The machine-generated word-level metadata typically does need some manual correction, although less and less as the training data has been updated.
English

@annetiquate We tokenize the texts and generate the word-level metadata using MorphAdorner, an NLP quite I started work on some years ago for antecendent projects. Old version at morphadorner.morthwestern.edu .
