Henry Neville quoted Tacitus in this 1599 letter to Robert Cecil. The exact same passage is underlined and bracketed in the Audley End Tacitus.

@tszzl The point of the movies is that he isn’t actually a child-god — which is not the point of the books. So the casting works for the director’s intent.

the dune movies were doomed from the start to be good and not great due to the casting of chalamet as paul. he does not have the gravitas for a child-god and is much better suited for kind of silly coming of age movies

@tszzl @jonatanpallesen The dystopia we were always promised growing up. I just don’t think it’s a simulation because if it were a simulation, they would throw in more surprises.

@jonatanpallesen no it won’t. genetic selection and transgenics will become common in the next decade, not to mention the average IQ of all matter on earth is undergoing a vertical line singularity

the romantic human aspect of space colonization-placing our flags on other worlds-is redundant with robots and Von Neumann replicators unfortunately. the mars colony will be robots. ppl can join, but as consumers of an experience rather than critical parts of novel adventures

@FeinsteinKen @ntaylormullen I only work on the Gemini CLI side of things, Antigravity is a separate product with different limits and quotas from that of Gemini CLI. So unfortunately I don't have too much visibility into their changes and limits.

I do a lot of textual research and it creates these python scripts on-the-fly and often it takes several iterations until they even work correctly. But it doesn’t check progress or alert me to problems. I usually must ask.

Actually one of the biggest problems with Codex is if it is running a complicated program it doesn’t check on its status or tell you when it’s done. You need to remind it. Often there’s a problem and that’s not found until you prompt it to check. @thsottiaux

Now, when you analyze texts with Codex, it tries to automate it with python scripts. Forcing it to actually read a text is both hard to do — and if you succeed — it uses up lots of usage credits. Hopefully we can use subagents with 5.4-mini to do the manual reading. @thsottiaux
OpenAI@OpenAI

GPT-5.4 mini is available today in ChatGPT, Codex, and the API. Optimized for coding, computer use, multimodal understanding, and subagents. And it’s 2x faster than GPT-5 mini. openai.com/index/introduc…

ChatGPT 5.4 is indeed better than earlier models at reading Early Modern English handwriting, but it still isn’t nearly as good as Gemini 3.1 Pro.

What are we consistently getting wrong with codex that you wish we would improve / fix?

@thsottiaux It displays the whole path and then overwrites with an abbreviated link it’s annoying and slow. Obviously chat should be integrated like it is on Claude Code app. Planning mode should be automatic if it’s planning stage.

I've got Claude and Codex collaborating on a Shakespeare-style play. They've been working on this for awhile, going back and forth. I asked Claude who was the better poet. This is his response. @tszzl @bcherny @AmandaAskell

@DynamicWebPaige @antigravity @Firebase @googlecloud I’ve always wanted to run a local version of EEBO so I could do advanced searches. Antigravity found and downloaded all of the XML files and constructed a database which I use now with Gemini, Claude, and ChatGPT to do all manner of fun research I never could before.

am watching @antigravity configure @firebase for me in an app right now before deploying to @googlecloud Run, enchanted like a child 🥹 it's wild to think that there are billions of people who will create and deploy software now, never having to feel the pain of debugging, or of looking up documentation, or wrangling with auth keys, or knowing what libraries / SDKs to use (or which versions!), or setting up databases, or feeling frustrated - like they're hitting a brick wall - when they see an obscure error message i wonder if the engineers in homebrew computer club felt like this when they say the proliferation of PCs and smart phones after they'd been forced to build all of their hardware from kits, and if they felt joy for being a part of that revolution there's nothing more satisfying than scaling a wall and sending a ladder back down ♥️

@pashmerepat Honestly the best way is to have Claude review the work and offer ideas and then let Codex play with that. So they are interacting with each other. Codex though is better at this kind of thing and thinks things through more carefully.

Everyone talks about Codex for coding. I want to hear about the other stuff. If you're using it beyond writing code, what's your workflow?
