He mauled a four year old child. The child survived because her own dog, a female Pit, put herself between the Lab and child.

The officer is not blamed for Floyd’s bad choices. If he had not knelt if Floyd’s neck for 8+ minutes, which was a malicious choice, the whole matter would have been viewed differently. Floyd was a know criminal. You are correct that if he had taken a day off might still be alive. If he chose to get sober a week before, he would probably be alive. All that being true does not absolve Chauvin from his malicious crime. Even if Floyd deserved that kind of treatment, the officer does not have the right or power to kneel on his neck for 8+ minutes.
