Almost everything I have picked up here is made in China. I’ll happily pay more for British made, in what I thought was a British shop, but it seems to be impossible.

To my mind, this is one of the most beautiful autochromes ever taken: a study of artists on the banks of the Dordogne near Beaulieu in France. The light, colour & composition is a work of art in itself. It was taken in colour 98 years ago, in 1925, by Jules Gervais-Courtellemont.

Photographed 102 years ago, this is Dana Desboro Glover (1894-1957), the second wife of the photographer Edward Steichen (1879-1973) (and it was Steichen who took this autochrome portrait). It was taken in 1923 - the year of their marriage - and it's original colour, not colourised.
