@ryanburge How were they recruited and incentivized for this survey from 1976 to 2022? How was the survey conducted? I don’t think behavior has changed. I think HS are very savvy about what they admit to or not.

In 1976, 92% of high school seniors said that they had consumed alcohol in their lives. In 2022, that was 53%. Smoking cigarettes went from 76% to 17% during the same time period. Marijuana use is down by 26 pts. Oh, and teen pregnancy is down 75% since the early 1990s.

Consensus view: Humans will serve as managers and editors, directing teams of AI agents. I'm more intrigued by the reverse. Who's building software that tells humans what to do?

@johnrushx Ig we look to biology then memory has to be structural. There are no “bits” saved in the brain the way databases, vector stories, etc do.

I’m feeling so pessimistic about AI today. After building dozens of AI agents for many years, here is what I got to say: The biggest challenge in building AI agents is agent’s long term memory. LLMs with huge context windows are pretty much scams, cuz they compress the text under the hood making it completely unreliable for any serious task (the error accumulation and forward propagation when run in an agentic loop ). Existing LLMs would be capable of replacing humans if only the memory problem was really solved. But..nobody has come even close to solving this yet, and it may take a decade until this is solved. I won’t even be surprised if it turns out that our general intelligence comes from our insanely amazing memory engine in our brains coupled with the logical apparatus. Right now the LLM can only apply logic, but it can’t memorize things as our brain does, therefore we’re very far from AGi or even a basic 100% autonomous ai agent. Unfortunately :( But, I have an idea to solve this at least for business ai agents. I’ll present my solution soon in my next ai agents release.

@theJayAlto Looking at comments I worry more. What we’ve hardwired into everything now is optimizing for self interest - and people rationalize that as free market. Our interconnectedness and interdependency is hidden by “efficient systems.”

it terrifies me how many talented people are contributing to a future they wouldn't want to live in. building something addictive. exploitative. destructive. something they'll ban their own kids from using. and for what? a paycheck? surely there's a better way to use your gifts?

designers who are creative (expressive), technically knowledgeable (able to execute), tasteful (+craft), empathic, and hard-working are the best but rarest combination, because these qualities counterbalance one another. There are only a few hundred such designers in the world.

@WilliamBryk You’re doing it wrong if it’s generic.

LLM generated copy is a huge company hazard. We ban it at Exa, highly recommend to do the same. It subtly undermines creative output by introducing generic thought into what needs to be unique company vibes. Even LLM brainstorming is dangerous bc then the foundations are generic

@yoheinakajima I’m curious about this. I think all the current ux is just a transition to something else. Why chat when my questions and answers are just part of the tools I use?
