1 tiny packet vs. the Global Giants. While Coca-Cola sold bottles, he sold Concentrated Defiance. By removing the water & the glass, he gave the Indian mother a way to serve 32 guests for just 5 rupees. He did not just build a drink; he built a Mathematics of Joy that defeated Tang & dominated the 80s. Discover the Ghost Lab of Ahmedabad that created the world’s most efficient soft drink. In the late 70s, if an Indian family wanted a refreshing cold drink, they had 2 choices: Expensive glass bottles like Gold Spot/Limca. Tang (by General Foods) was an elite product. It was imported/priced so high that it was reserved for the 1%. The average Indian mother could not afford to serve fancy drinks to a house full of guests. Areez Pirojshaw Khambatta, the founder, did not want to build a factory; he wanted to build a Solution. He realized that 80% of the cost of a cold drink was the Glass Bottle & the Water. He thought: "Why am I shipping water across India? Let the consumer provide the water. I will just provide the Soul' of the drink. He created the Rasna Soft Drink Concentrate (SDC). A tiny pack that contained a small vial of liquid concentrate & a bag of powder. Khambatta launched a campaign that became a mathematical nightmare for his competitors. Rasna’s slogan was "32 glasses for 5 rupees." While a single bottle of Coke cost roughly ₹2, Rasna was giving us a glass of high-quality orange drink for roughly 15 paise. It was Financial Freedom for the Indian housewife. Suddenly, she could host a birthday party/a wedding & serve a modern drink w/o breaking the bank. Rasna did not just win on price; it won on Emotional Architecture. They used a young girl (the Rasna girl) to target the pester power of children. By making the Concentrate a DIY project, they turned the drink into a family ritual. Mothers & children would sit together, mix the syrup with sugar & water, & pour it into bottles. Rasna did not sit in the fridge; it sat in the Memory of every 80s & 90s kid. In the 90s, General Foods (now Mondelēz) tried to bring Tang to India with a massive budget to crush the local player. Rasna did not flinch. They launched Rasna International, improved their packaging, & doubled down on their Desi flavors like Kala Khatta & Aam Panna. Tang had the money, but Rasna had the Distribution. Khambatta had ensured Rasna was available in the smallest kirana store in the remotest village. Today, Rasna has a 70%+ market share in the concentrate segment. It is 1 of the few Indian brands that global giants could not buy/break/bury. The Ghost behind Rasna was an Efficiency Engineer. He realized that in India, Volume is King. By removing the Weight (water & glass), he created a supply chain that was impossible for the British/American firms to compete with. Khambatta passed away in 2022, but he left behind a legacy that proves you do not need a massive bottling plant to conquer a nation. All you need is a tiny packet & the audacity to tell a mother she can feed 32 guests for the price of a bus ticket.

Wanted to send a few documents to Bengaluru. Courier quoted Rs 350 (overnight) from Bhubaneswar. Since it was just some printouts, I simply used print service of a quick commerce platform with delivery address in Bengaluru. The documents reached in just 16 minutes 😅 What a time to be alive!

Bundles of white sarees were found inside a TMC office. This is not just about sarees. In 2024, in Sandeshkhali, a white saree and flowers were sent to a BJP worker’s home with the message, “You say Hari, I will say Hari Bol,” a slogan chanted during funeral processions. In February 2026, in Birbhum, a white saree, flowers, and agarbatti were sent to a BJP worker’s home with the same message. White sarees are worn by widows. By sending white sarees, TMC gives the message that they will kill your husband and make you a widow. TMC is more criminal than you can imagine.
