Teach and research the sociolinguistics of dude, gender, Pittsburgh, stance and stance taking. Habitual anaphoric reference: he/him but they/them is fine

@Dashiellsteven @osgamer74 Dude as first used above is a referring term to a person, not the address term. Dude and mate in Oz and US *as referring terms* are different. As address terms, they are very similar (I've lived in both places) although do slightly different things as the cultures are different.

Old mate here says ‘dude’ in the USA is said with the same frequency and cultural context as ‘mate’ is in Australia Is this true? Does everyone in America say ‘dude’ in nearly every sentence for all sorts of reasons? I need to know mate
"Doctor" Thunderdome@DrThunderdome

@osgamer74 You didn't even say it? Right, like you didn't put the word DUDE in the exact same quotations like it's not a completely common word in the United States. Oh wait, I just took a picture of you doing both a couple tweets up. Real solid critical thinking you've got going there. lol

Writing something short about the closure of the Appalachian studies program at West Virginia University, and it’s leading me in a non-snarky way to a fundamental question that I find hard to answer: What does WVU, from the perspective of its leadership, care about?

In 1997, Julia Hill climbed a 200-foot 1000-year-old Californian redwood tree and did not come down for 738 days to prevent Pacific Lumber Company loggers from cutting it down. She ultimately reached an agreement with the company to spare the tree and a 200-foot buffer zone surrounding it.

@joshshepperd Peace. Like a hippy. 'Peace out' if you're really feeling it. Because we need more of it, and it's a good thing to wish someone.

For real I love the idea of at least starting with “bro” ❤️😆 What about “govna” instead of “bruv”?
Rohan@rohanvisme

@Kateness8 Start it with "bruh", "bro", or "bruv" and then say something brutally mean at the end of the compliment. That's how we compliment each other.

Menfolk, I have a question What’s a good way to give you compliments without seeming like I’m hitting on you? I like giving compliments but I want us both to feel comfortable
