$0 is a gross exaggeration, but it's not that far off. For $8000 I could get everything for a year in the wild, including a cheap car to get to a remote river system.
After selling the car, canoe, rifles, gear when done with them, ~ $3k spent.

My contribution to the lunch discourse: it's literally free to stalk and hunt wild game and averaging between 200-300 lbs of meat, a full grown elk can feed a family for roughly 300 meals or an individual for considerably more.
