@planckbohr Frickin ridiculous. Jews are a tiny fraction of 1% of Europe's population. Also, Jews ARE Europeans. We've lived in Europe for a millennium. & we're white. Also, whitey's only 10% of the world pop. Whitey never dominated the world demographically. But the UK is still 83% white.

Interesting, and perhaps you're right. Certainly I'm happy that the internist who is my anchor physician is way above 115. But being close to someone with cancer who started with a mediocre oncologist, became worried about his advice and switched an oncologist at Johns Hopkins, I'm here to tell you that it was a life-saving decision--and the JH oncologist has a wicked high IQ. For that matter, my impression is that the oncologist's nurse is well into the 120s. At least.

It’s no wonder Finland’s economy is struggling and unemployment is at record levels when, for example, people spend three years studying to become house painters. A young person could gain the same qualifications through an intensive course lasting just a couple of months.

I've used this answer many times. Credit for the analogy goes to Steve Goldberg, an NYU sociology professor. Any time you hear that "the best [name a cognitively demanding profession] often aren't the ones with the highest IQs," this is a useful response: "The relationship of IQ to productivity in [the cognitively demanding profession] is like the relationship of weight to productivity for offensive linemen in the NFL. The heaviest offensive lineman often aren't the best. The correlation between productivity and weight is low. But you have to weigh 300 lbs. to get the job." What's the IQ equivalent of 300 lbs? It depends. Take physicians, for example. I can easily imagine wonderful general-practice pediatricians who have IQs of 115--but not ones with IQs of 95 that I would trust with my own child. But in a specialty like oncology, which often requires mastering complex biochemical information, I'd be uncomfortable with anyone under 130. The central points : IQ is far being the end-all for determining success. Other abilities can be decisive. But in choosing a profession, try to find one for which you weigh 300 lbs.

Many people were asking about movements of occupations with regards to US politics. Using the DIME database, here are some initial results. Physicians moved from being right leaning before 2010 to being left leaning. Many other high end occupations similarly moved left in line with the general SES realignment, even CEOs are now centrist. Populism is repulsive to elites. There are some that moved toward the right, retirees, police officers (post Floyd), truck drivers.
