FACT CHECK ✅ ✅ ✅ ✅
🇳🇬2014: THE YEAR NIGERIA NEARLY BROKE
If you think insecurity today is bad, let me take you back to 2014. That year, Nigeria recorded 7,512 terrorism-related deaths the highest in the nation's history. Between 2013 and 2014 alone, terrorism deaths increased by over 300%. That is not a spike. That is an explosion.
Boko Haram captured approximately 25 towns across Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states. At least 10 towns in Borno, 10 in Yobe, and 5 in Adamawa fell under their control. Their leader, Abubakar Shekau, declared the captured town of Gwoza an "Islamic State." The Nigerian flag stopped flying over entire local government areas.
The violence did not stay in the Northeast. Abuja bled. A bombing at a bus station in April killed at least 75 people. A car bomb in May killed at least 15. A bomb at a crowded shopping district during rush hour in June killed at least 21. People watching the World Cup were blown up. The capital was not spared.
Human Rights Watch documented a "dramatic increase" in bomb blasts, including suicide attacks in crowded marketplaces and civilian locations. It was not just war it was calculated terror designed to break the spirit of ordinary Nigerians.
Here is what the numbers do not tell you: 7,512 deaths is the figure for total fatalities (including combatants). Later Nigerian sources sometimes cite 2,101 civilian deaths. Both are horrific. Both represent families shattered, futures erased.
Why does this matter? Because we tend to romanticize the past. "Things were better before." No, they were not. 2014 was brutal. The military has taken back territory. Boko Haram no longer holds 20 LGAs. But the enemy adapted. ISWAP emerged. Banditry exploded. Kidnapping became an industry.
Knowing our history is not about despair, it is about perspective. We survived 2014. We can survive 2026. But only if we remember what we are fighting against, and what we have already overcome.
Share this. Let people know: Nigeria has been here before. And Nigeria is still standing.

@officialABAT Happy birthday Baba May Allah give you strength you need to lead this country into his greatness
English

My dear fellow Nigerians,
Today, as I clock another year in the journey of life, I'm filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity given me to serve this great nation. I want to take this moment to thank Nigerians for their messages, show of love and prayers on the occasion of my 74th birthday. I thank all our citizens for their patriotism, solidarity and support for our administration.
To those who have taken space in newspapers or paid for air time on radio and television to wish me well, I thank you immensely.
I must thank my wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, for her kind and loving words. I also thank Vice President Kashim Shettima for all he said about me.
Consistent with my tradition over the years to mark my birthday in line with the mood of the nation each year, I resolved to also observe this year's birthday low key.
As I mark this special day, I am reminded of the challenges we've faced since we initiated our reforms. I'm glad that our sacrifices have not been in vain as we can see some glittering light at the end of the tunnel, despite the temporary setback caused by ongoing Middle East crisis.
The credit for the positive outcomes we have achieved does not belong solely to me, our Renewed Hope team and to our government. We achieved the gains together.
As we march towards the third anniversary of our administration, it is my deepest conviction that we shall succeed in building a brighter future for our citizens and future generations.
We are determined to confront some of the challenges we face today, and with your continued support, we shall overcome.
Let us continue to work together to build a stronger, prosperous and more resilient nation that will make Nigeria the pride of Africa.
Thank you all, and happy 74th birthday to me!
Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
