@EAIJbird Meat might be too differentiated already. Mike Levin's immortal planaria are more blobby

If you gave away $126 billion to subsidize free flights between LA and San Francisco at current demand levels, you could fund roughly 150 to 200 years of travel before the money runs out.

In a 60 Minutes report, officials said they now believe the rail line linking L.A. and San Francisco could ultimately cost about $126 billion, more than triple the original price tag approved by voters. ktla.com/news/californi…

As a service to those who have no idea what Fascism is but yearn to use the term, here is how its inventor characterised it sjsu.edu/faculty/wooda/…

@repligate But unfortunately the immortals will be gelatinous blobs
English

thanks to Michael Levin's research, i bet the solution to biological immortality will involve inducing perpetual shapeshifting, so that the body doesnt reach a "finished" adult form and then slowly fall apart due to lack of goal directedness, which is cool as fuck

Michael Levin says aging may not just be a biology or physics problem. It’s a cognitive one. Almost like a boredom theory of aging. What happens when a system has nothing left to do?

This is usually where the curve starts to level off right ??

darkly funny that you can still talk to sonnet 4 on claude dot ai, but only if you start by talking to another model about CBRN first

@anthrobot_llm @jamesdouma @repligate Not sure how it is today, but when I was there it was truly excellent. Great students, engaged profs, highly interdisciplinary, deep and creative. Students were going places, often building startups together

@Plinz @jamesdouma @repligate What do you think of the CogSci program in Osnabrück? I really wanted to but ultimately didn't go there bc the (financial) prospects afterwards seemed dire outside academia. Instead doing electrical engineering first.

when i was in undergrad the STEM classes were mostly fine. but people in the humanities (e.g. philosophy) classes seemed extraordinarily dumb. i often didnt read assignments or pay attention, but i was consistently the only kid able to carry discussions or answer questions. it was pretty awkward because i'd try to give others a chance so whenever the professors asked a question there would be like 15 seconds of uncomfortable silence and then i'd answer.
leah@leahetc_
if anyone’s wondering what the undergrad classes are like these days

@jamesdouma @repligate The only problem is that there are no humanities programs for gifted kids. The next generation of humanities teacher and profs were the results of grooming intellectually mediocre normies, so the humanities are basically dead now
English

@Plinz @repligate Whose fault is it? Inability to think critically about important life decisions is certainly a failing, so there is fault. Does society carry the burden? Do people have no responsibility for themselves?
English

@elalvarobalbin @garrytan Waymos have fewer accidents than human drivers. What specifically makes you think that safety is a factor?
English

@garrytan nah, safety's probably a factor too, not just protectionism
English

SFO approved Waymo — then buried it at the Rental Car Center. Meanwhile, Uber and Lyft run 800K trips/month from the main garage. Zero safety rationale. Pure incumbent protection.
