It gets very difficult to maintain *any* respect for people who otherwise know better but continue to argue, for either their own personal standing in the party or for any other selfish reason, that Trump is fit to lead the United States when he is demonstrably unhinged.

I assume Orban conceded because the opposition's victory is too staggeringly large to deny. It's important for us to remember that, were he in Orban's position, Trump would never concede, no matter how large the margin.

Hey @GOP, you good with your guy directly attacking the Pope now? We know the leadership of the Republican Party is on their knees (not praying!) but if anyone over there still has a spine, this is an easy one!

This is the repugnant character of a man who has spent his entire life expecting others to clean up his mess. A person completely incapable of taking responsibility—even for the smallest gesture. This is precisely what makes him so dangerous and unsuitable as president: Someone who treats everything like dirt and expects his subordinates to clean up after him will treat a country the same way. Without respect, without a sense of responsibility, without any consideration for those who will come after him. This is not the kind of character one wishes upon the president of the United States. This is the character of a spoiled, ruthless egomaniac.

This will end well. Some genius in Trumpland decided, “Hey, the best thing we can do now is to go to war with the Holy Father.”

Pope Leo XIV is not ‘woke’, nor a Marxist, nor a progressive, nor a leftist. The Pope is simply a Christian. When he defends the poor and the innocent, he is following the Gospel. When he denounces injustice, he is imitating Christ. When he speaks for the poor, he is repeating word for word the Sermon on the Mount. Those who are angry at him are not fighting with Pope Leo XIV. They are fighting with Christ. Because it was Jesus who said: ‘Whatever you did for the least of my brothers, you did for me.’ Rejecting the Pope for being merciful is not something a Christian does. The problem is not that Leo XIV has strayed from Christ. The problem is that some have strayed so far from the Gospel that they no longer recognize it when they see it.

This reckless breach of diplomacy happened right after a fragile ceasefire was announced, making it obvious that the U.S. was trying to cheat and provoke while pretending to negotiate in good faith. The damage is enormous. After this stunt, why would any country – especially Iran – ever trust the United States at the negotiating table again? Trump and Hegseth have turned America into bad faith actors, and have surrendered our hard-won leadership and respect from world leaders. It’s a mighty fall for the once-great United States of America.
