@NancyBl54176506 @Garnet_2203 And there are crisis lists for more urgent placement. If he was palliative would a hospice not have been better option.

@NancyBl54176506 @Garnet_2203 Then he would go to a LTC home. In Ontario basic beds are subsidized …but no bed or 24 hour care is free.

We paid into the system our entire lives. Worked. Paid taxes. Bought homes. Now when we need care, we’re told it’s $4,000–$8,000 a month or sell everything. Why are seniors being pushed to pay corporations like Chartwell Retirement Residences… …instead of accessing the public long-term care we paid into? Because Doug Ford didn’t keep up with public long-term care. Why should we be forced to sell our homes, homes meant to be passed on to our children, just to age safely? We want to be able to pass something on to give our kids even a small chance in Ontario. A chance to maybe put a down payment on a home. A start in life. This isn’t normal. We cannot normalize this.

My mother-in-law is in hospital, unstable, struggling to breathe, not safe on her own. And someone walks in with a brochure for Chartwell Retirement Residences. Not a care plan. A sales pitch. In an Ontario hospital. This is the reality after years of underfunding by Doug Ford, families pushed to “find somewhere to go.”

@ann89015794645 @Garnet_2203 Agree. But many want ltc as cheaper than retirement home. Hence the need to meet eligibility …as we need the proper level of care in LTC

@pmc8387 @Garnet_2203 Kind of the point. If you are eligible for LTC you should not accept a retirement home. Not only is it massively more expensive but the available care will not be adequate

@ann89015794645 @Garnet_2203 A person has to meet criteria for LTC and be medically stable for a home to consider their file. Retirement homes are different as privately owned. ( in Ontario )

@Garnet_2203 Theoretically, there is a difference in the level of care provided by retirement homes vs long term care homes with LTC able to provide a higher level. As a LTC physician, my experience is to be very careful when being pushed to discharge by an acute care hospital.

@Garnet_2203 My Mom broke her hip back in 2022, because her home has stairs, we put her in a residence home for a month, $10,000 and extra for medication. She has Alzheimer's. We now have a full time PSW that lives with her. Still paying close to that but she gets better care.

@NancyBl54176506 @Garnet_2203 No one has ever had 24 hour care provided free. Taxpayers cannot afford that. In the past those folks stayed at home with family and no such thing as homecare.

@Garnet_2203 My dad was palliative and was told he had at best a 6 mo wait for LTC. He rec’d 21 hrs of prov PSW support a week. The remaining 147 hrs/wk to provide the 24/7 care he needed was paid for by family. Disgraceful!!

@Garnet_2203 4. My uncle has been in the hospital a month after a fall, and they are waiting for a bed. This is how Ford treats our seniors. Every one of us should be outraged!

@BrianDijkema The younger generations carry on like all religious holidays are just regular days off. And their children and future generations will be the same. 🤷‍♀️

To be clear, I’m not particularly surprised or even disappointed about this. I don’t expect non Christians to care. It’s just the reality we live in. Good Friday and Easter are two of the three most important days in history. But we live in a world for which they’re just free days from work. 2/

Our kids’ sports teams have practices and games scheduled for Good Friday, and Easter morning. This (along with MAiD) is one of the clearest examples of a post Christian culture we’ve seen in a while. 1/

A friend of mine, her son has separated from his wife. I really like her. Everyone in the family has unfriended her on Facebook, but I haven’t. Like I said, I really like her. I’m sorry it didn’t work out, but why should I unfriend her just because they did? What would you do?🤔

@Kelsisheren @PrickyPiranha Yes true. Just went to a talk with a dr and this question was specifically asked. Organs cannot be harvested if MAID done at home.

People don’t want MAID and to die They just want the pain to stop and be given proper care Why is that so damn hard for people to understand.

@PrickyPiranha @Kelsisheren FYI if I choose MAID at home. My organs cannot be donated. Not sure where you are getting your info. Have to be in a medical facility for organs to be donated. …

@daleethompson Why do we care that doctors get paid to kill sick people? Is that the real question?

The only question I have for people who oppose MAID here in 🇨🇦 is this: Why do you even care what someone decides for themselves at the end of life? Why aren't you aggressively going after those who're abusing their bodies with alcohol, drugs, smoking, poor eating habits first?

I had a loved one in my family choose MAiD when he was in the last months of painful bladder cancer. I see a lot of people on this platform calling it immoral. The only immoral thing I see is making people suffer when they choose to die on their own terms with dignity.

@JeffreyLuscombe I still live daily with bone pain, some days I can hardly move, but I will live to watch my daughter walk down the aisle. I consider it vile to accept MAID

@JeffreyLuscombe My deeply religious Catholic cousin believes that suffering in the end is God's will and is done for him. I think if you don't want MAid, then don't do it. Otherwise, shut up and mind your business & let people make up their own mind. I know I will choose it.

Could some Christians have a fetish for suffering — especially other’s suffering? Could they believe suffering is god’s will? Either way it’s vile.

@RealBlackIrish I work for sheltered housing and we just had someone who didn't have a funeral at all. I didn't know that was even a thing. There's so many elderly people without any contacts at all.

Today was the funeral of our 93 year-old neighbour’s wife. She was 92 and they’d been married for seventy years. Their only son died two years ago and there are no grandchildren. We were the only people there. We walked in with him & he said weakly “there’s nobody here”.
