AI coding tools are powerful but we mustn’t let our own skills atrophy

@DemoOrDie @leonard_coder @lycium @mike_acton Yeah AVX on Xbox and spu stuff on ps3… I did use some ppu intrinsics, I was more talking here about just general CPU code struggling from cache misses
English

@leonard_coder @lycium @mike_acton I didn’t learn assembly back in the day, was taught OO in uni and worked on an engine that was full of cache misses on PPU and no one I worked with really knew how to optimise it, so this talk was very helpful for me at that time
English

@polymonster @lycium @mike_acton If you had chance to learn programming using assembly back in time with simple CPU, "data oriented design" would just be a buzz word. Tbh the colored shirt is the only surprising thing of this talk to me :)
English

@thope_xyz Yea exactly! Time step is very important for character controller

@polymonster Was very satisfying when I saw them confirm a bug fix in my timstep

@FreyaHolmer @LinkedIn I can’t imagine anything worse than generative AI derivative LinkedIn posts
English

using people's content for AI training without their consent is incredibly gross @LinkedIn. at the very least it should be opt-in instead of opt-out
Rachel Tobac@RachelTobac
LinkedIn is now using everyone's content to train their AI tool -- they just auto opted everyone in. I recommend opting out now (AND that orgs put an end to auto opt-in, it's not cool) Opt out steps: Settings and Privacy > Data Privacy > Data for Generative AI Improvement (OFF)

@NickADobos Ok great, I’m on board. What have you made and released with AI vs what you could make solo?
English

I am 100% on the opposite side of this
I dont need "true understanding"
such a thing doesnt exist
I will skate, surf & compose on the tippy top of the tech stack. I command an army of ai Hadouken warriors. I hate the code. I want apps. The experience & story of human + machine

This is why having AI write code for you sucks. Literally just have the training wheels on forever. Great point by @dhh

@SullyOmarr Show me some good optimisations with diffs and captures / profiles…

@ImpossibleScott I am very interested in geometry detail and LOD techniques, it’s a hard problem to solve in the general case, would be interested in digging into and understanding in more detail what you’re doing. Looks great and congrats on announcing ✌🏻

@SpursOfficial Sell the club. Dissolve it. Refund me my lifetime of misery. U absolute joke of an institution

@tehTrunk And then maybe there could be some discourse as to why it’s happening, I doubt they care if ppl are strolling down the high round with ENIC out banners but if they lose their precious revenue then maybe they will do something about it?
English

@tehTrunk It’s frustrating that football success is secondary. I was thinking of ways to protest and I have decided this season I will not buy food or drinks at the stadium at all and just turn up for KO and leave, if everyone did this an match day revenue drops they would notice
