Stargate The Movie Documentary! (2026)

Ticket sales are the true measure for sure. The problem is no one keeps an accurate measure of them. All we really have is inflation, which to me is incredibly important. The other thing to note is that there are more people in the world today, which means more potential people to go to movies. The bottom line is new movies have the deck stacked in their favor ;)

@PopcastGuys I just don't think box office sales numbers tell the real story. Things cost more now. its just a arbitrary number when have to sell half the tickets to match a number that a movie did 15 -20 years ago.

This happened to me in 1999 when I went to The Sixth Sense opening. I had to wait an additional 2 months for it to arrive in Italy back then. I avoided the big spoiler all that time and was so excited to see the movie. Just as the movie started, the lady behind me tells her friend... The twist is Bruce Willis is dead. I wanted to kill her.

I thought about this a lot, and I have a theory. We know that Ned has magic potential. He was able to use the sling ring with no training in No Way Home. He probably has the ability to be a powerful magic user. So he might have had some kind of resistance to spell and Peter triggered it.

You aren't wrong. That said Disney will likely own the top movie by the end of the year with Doomsday. Sony also still has Jumanji Next Level coming on Christmas Day. Warner Brothers has Digger and Dune 3. Bottom line, Sony was smart to buy Spider-Man in 1999 for $7 Million Dollars. What an investment!

@OMBReviews Brother, I think your point is very good. Covid definitely impacted the potential earnings of No Way Home and it had tremendous more hype than Brand New Day. A point I hadn't really considered before. Thanks!

Something that even I forgot when it comes to the tracking for this movie is that though the over $600 million global opening for No Way Home back in 2021 had promos for Tobey and Andrew's return and the hype surrounding that, it was still very much the heart of the COVID era. We have no idea how big that movie could have been if it did not have the fear mongering that was still happening when it had released. Though this one does not have the same hype, it also doesn't have the same COVID hysteria environment...this film could possibly far exceed that 2021 release...let's just say that though I remain skeptical (we don't have all data from the international markets yet, though what we do have looks very strong), the reports of a $800 million global opening may not be as far out of reach as I once thought...most likely scenario seems to be a $600-$750 global opening and a big part of this is without a doubt that Brand New Day, unlike No Way Home, has a massive China box office being reported

HUGE numbers for Spider-Man. IMPORTANT CONTEXT... my "Thursday Night Preview" was at noon. They ran showings all day and did fan screenings Wednesday. This doesn't diminish the extreme demand, but historically Thursday Previews are only Thursday night.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (🌟🌟🌟🌟) is fucking awesome & probably the best thing Marvel has done since End Game. I say this as an MCU skeptic. I say this as someone who’s expressed doubts about Tom Holland in the past. I say this as someone who bitched & moaned all week about the 2.5 hour run time. But for once in my life, I’m happy to report I was wrong. This film is excellent. Tom Holland crushed this performance just two weeks after crushing The Odyssey. Everything about Brand New Day is done well & every last actor in this film thrives. I laughed. I cried. I had a blast. This is how you make a comic book film.  There was a time I loved Marvel films. Prior to the conclusion of End Game, an MCU release was appointment viewing. Since End Game? God help us all. My chief complaint with the MCU since End Game is the multi-verse. I’ve never enjoyed it & it’s always felt like a stupid, messy, overly-complicated trope. Therefore, one of the smartest things Brand New day does is it has zero multi-verse bullshit in it. This is a film that explores Peter Parker’s ethos & story that’s built in an organic way that allows this film to stand on its own two feet. You don’t need to be familiar with the latest releases in the MCU to understand this story.  And the story here couldn’t be more relevant because it explores the consequences of isolation not just for young men - but for young people in general. We find Peter Parker four years after No Way Home as a man who is totally withdrawn from the world. The primary theme/force pushing this story forward is that Parker has now accepted that he’s a loner. His focus is now 100% devoted to being Spider-Man. Friends? Family? They’re all gone now- for their own safety, Ned (Jacob Batalon) & MJ (Zendaya), no longer remember who Peter is at this point. The idea here is as Peter tries to focus on fighting crime & embracing his full-time role as Spider-Man, the isolation starts to impact his ability to perform as Spidey & the spider DNA inside him starts to take over. In other words, the man’s loneliness is killing him. This all collides with Sade Sink’s Jean Grey. Like Parker, Grey has super powers (hers being the power of telepathy). And like Parker, Grey has nobody in her life. Her telepathy has cost her almost everyone close to her & the only person she has left is her sister- who’s been taken by the Department of Damage Control, led by Tramell Tillman. The conflict here isn’t just Peter’s isolation or Grey’s loneliness by themselves, but also Peter’s obligation to reign Grey back in. I can’t overstate how well-done the story is here. The 2.5 hour runtime flew by. And that’s because of the parallel storylines between Peter & Jean. The story just feels fresh, damn it. There’s humor (especially with Mark Ruffalo as Hulk & Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, each who are excellent). There’s really well-done action set pieces (especially with Hulk). And there is the perfect amount of nostalgia & emotion. I think the chemistry between Tom Holland & Zendaya was just so palpable & real. Every time they share the screen in this film, it’s special. The flashbacks scenes to earlier parts of their relationship are just right. All of which feeds into this film’s biggest achievement: it nails the story.  That excellent story & that well-done action is all brought to life by Tom Holland. This is his film. This is his summer. Holland brings the audience with him the entire way through in what is an undeniable movie-star performance. I think the biggest strength Holland brings not just to this specific performance as Spidey but to his work as Spider-Man in general is his reliability. Holland never feels out of reach emotionally or physically. I think there’s a humanity that he brings to Peter Parker that neither Tobey Maguire nor Andrew Garfield can touch. Brand New day is a mature but still incredibly fun performance from Tom Holland. Brand New day left me totally satisfied. I’m ready to go again right now.
