There are distinct differences that may not be understandable to a non-dev. Different environments have different circumstances, different volumes of use, different observability. Matchmaking is the hot path, it is the realest of the real. It is already closely monitored for performance and observation. Also this isn’t the only reason chickens exist. They have been part of these maps forever. They just chose chickens as the test bed for the greater AG2 experiment because it shares distinct characteristics with player models. It has a skeleton, animations, and can be networked. That’s all. It’s clever, but not a conspiracy.

@KorverAintMe @popflashsite literally 0 difference between testing it in casual and dm vs Premier while on Premier, chickens give away your position, if they are on top of the bomb you can't defuse through them, and can hide enemies like on mid if someone is in the sewers and you only see their head

Makes me laugh so hard when people think the devs are just morons wasting time on chickens. They’re much smarter than anyone gives them credit for. And they know how to roll out systems incrementally, testing it on lower risk situations in production before pushing it into the more impactful and risky places. They’re good engineers.
