Tactile paving was created to help blind and visually impaired people get around streets safely But implemented in the wrong way, it can create just as many issues as any other design feature So, how can we make tactile paving better? I’ll go first…

Whenever I tweet about Greta Thunberg, I get non-disabled people replying they “find it difficult to see her as disabled.” It’s meant as a compliment but what they’re really saying is: “I equate disability with weakness and failure so can’t see a brilliant woman as disabled.”

Latest disability lingo bingo. Nurse just asked me if I can "mobilise". Naturally, my response was "eh?!" She meant stand or walk. Between discussing my "peers" (friends) and "toileting needs" (using the loo), I'm feeling suitably and beautifully 'othered' today 😆

Either YouTube's automated captions are struggling with Mark Drakeford reading the bible in Welsh or his address has taken a surrealist improvisational turn. #RodeoGaddafi #foiegrasGhanaians

@sundaegirl It’s definitely getting better, all the big updates seem to have some improvements. I also had a really productive conversation with Rhino so hopefully there’ll be some improvements there too!

@poppylevison I just noticed InDesign now has scaleable UI! Does this mean it's finally accessible for you?!

Very excited to be at the @NationalTheatre with @poppylevison to finally see @chessmartinez play All Of Us ( 2 years later). It’s a joy that there are so many disabled people here that us ‘normies’ are getting stared at 😂.

🗣️ Say it with us: Disabled toilets are not a store cupboard! If you're just going to use the disabled loo as a place to store clutter, you may as well not have one at all. 🙄 They're only accessible if people can actually use them. 📽️: @ShaniDhanda

Periodic reminder that Orcam is a face-mounted camera priced around $2500 that lets Blind people read print, recognize objects and do other things, all of which can also be done with free apps. Unlike the apps, Orcam has a sales team in the mold of big pharma reps —

In talks i emphasize that tactile literacy is for STEM, orientation, careers in design. But it's also for itself — discovery and creation. Blind people often miss out on the joy of casual drawing and i need that to be over.
