The team initially set a $2.5M raise target. The sale ultimately closed at over $11.4M. They later refunded roughly $2.4M, which they claimed was linked to team allocations, while retaining more than $9M from the raise. TROVE then launched on Solana instead of Hyperliquid, contrary to initial expectations. Extremely thin liquidity was added to the pool, and the token collapsed almost immediately after going live, leaving all presale participants in gruesome losses ▪️Mega ETH: The MEGA token generation event was expected to take place in February but has been postponed indefinitely until certain KPIs are met. → 10 Mafia apps fully deployed → $500M USDM → 3 apps with $50K daily fees for 30 days. However, it turned out that the token distribution model does not solve the lack of demand for governance tokens. ▪️Metadao: They’ve been one of the best-performing fundraising platforms in recent times, but for the first time ever, a presale hosted on the platform failed to meet its minimum target. Hurupay’s raise aimed for $3M but closed at roughly $2M (about 67%), triggering a full refund to participants. Many suggested that the failure was driven by MetaDAO’s recent change in fundraising policy. ▪️Opensea: On February 13, 2025, OpenSea revealed some details about the SEA token, but little else happened over the following year. On the eve of its one year anniversary, a site leaked information about a possible SEA ICO, which the founder quickly debunked. So, is there still going to be an OpenSea token? ▪️Huddle01: They had intended to raise $2M at a $20M FDV but only managed to raise $67K. As a result, they canceled the sale and announced a full refund to participants. ▪️Space Space initially communicated a $2.5M target raise, which many took as the expected sale size; after drawing over $20M in demand, it was reframed as a soft cap, enabling a much larger raise, with only $7.3M+ refunded to participants. ------- Over the past few weeks, ICOs have shifted from being the best token distribution model to more of a retail extraction event. Several recent ICOs have concluded without even debuting at their sale price, or have sharply declined shortly after their TGE. Notable examples include: FUN, UP, RNBW, INX, IMU, ESP and a couple others covered in this read.
