@Jpet_7 St. John’s, Louisville and every other team in the country would do whatever it takes to land a 50% volume 3-point shooter. I think they’d find a way to work him in somehow

Jordan Burks is staying in the Big 12, moving from UCF to Oklahoma State. Should be a day-1 stater for Steve Lutz and the Cowboys. My model says stats stay consistent, with a slight uptick in rebounds/game (4.8 -> 5.2).

@JUCOadvocate I think the team stories are more compelling now. Assimilating all the transfers with the in-program kids to create a team chemistry is fascinating, whether it worked or not.

It’s so easy (cost wise) to make high end content these days. Wish more teams would provide long form content for their fans. No, the players aren’t spending 4 years at schools anymore. So do an incredible job of telling those stories while they ARE there. Fans will engage

@ShootyH00ps @CharlieBakerMA Idiotic...and asking for a wave of lawsuits. The schools relied on the rules as they were and gave out $$ in revenue-share/NIL deals. How can the NCAA expect schools to unwind all of that at this stage?

@Roger_Chiasson @heitner But it’s a downward cycle. The more they spend on legal bills, the less they have to distribute to schools, the less the schools want/need them

@portalpredictor @heitner They will gladly pay those bills if the new rules - as they see it - allow the NCAA to get out from under ongoing legal losses to Jeffrey Kessler et al. People dont seem to understand recent decisions by the NCAA are viewed as existential to the org's survival.

@DraftExpress The problem is that this has to be all-or-nothing. Once the NCAA starts carving out individual situations, they open themselves up to "arbitrariness" claims.

The NCAA's new (very poorly timed) rule sends a clear message: international players are no longer welcome in the college game. ACB, France, Italy, Australian NBL and anyone who's ever played for a EuroLeague team, even for next to nothing, are suddenly permanently ineligible?
Kevin Sweeney@CBB_Central

New guidance issued by the NCAA to schools earlier this month opens the door for a crackdown on the tidal wave of international pros hoping to head to college basketball. Players from top leagues could face added scrutiny. Statement from NCAA enclosed: si.com/college-basket…

@brauf33 @basket_review I think the Duke-Amazon deal is the first step to university-owned sports networks. If you’re Texas, why not just make your own network/app to broadcast games?

@GrindHouseBB And for many coaches (everyone outside P4), nothing should matter except building a team that will win the conference/conference tournament.

@GrindHouseBB 100% agree. Coaches can't see past the Top 100 lists, because those are the "sure-things." Coaches, agents, players can find talent/fit with contextual comparisons -- Player X put up these stats at School Y. How will Player X perform at your school.

Isaiah Shaw is moving from Northern Arizona to UConn. Despite the big jump in Strength-of-Schedule (+11), Portal Predictor projects an increase in 3P% for Shaw from 48.6% to 51.9%. Could be raining 3's with Mullins and Shaw on the wings.

@danielpardo25 Tell Northern Arizona that they would get a highly-efficient playmaker. Even though Northern Arizona has a much tougher SoS than the other 3, my model predicts that he would get 11mpg/3.7ppg/2.1apg at Northern Arizona. But, if they give him 20mpg, he'd average 6.6ppg and 3.8apg

@JUCOadvocate Agree with all of this. Only issue I see: what happens with a coaching change? Getting released from a commitment could be a timing problem. And because the clock is running, no option in sitting out. What do you think?

Simple: 5 in 5 Clock starts at 19 or when you enroll at an NCAA institution whichever is first. Not when you graduate HS. Don’t punish accelerated kids that graduate early. If you’re in a documentable curriculum where you don’t graduate HS until you’re 20 (like Netherlands), then you can submit for review. Military exemptions still apply. No regular redshirts. Yes keep medical redshirts. Let’s not have keeps trying to play on partially torn whatevers and making bad health decisions since they can’t get a redshirt. If you played in the NBA or G League, you’re done. G league is specifically associated with the NBA. If you entered the NBA draft and were drafted and an NBA team owned your rights before sending you overseas, you’re done. If you played in Europe, I don’t care for who or for how much as long as you fit in the clock window. We’re just hypocrites if we say a college player can make 500k but an Italian player can’t. They don’t have HS or college basketball in Europe. Pro is their only route to keep playing. Quit treating it any different.

David Fuchs to Clemson. Projecting a solid carry-over of stats from San Francisco to ACC play -- 9.5ppg and 6rpg. Very nice get for Brownell this late in the transfer portal season.

Does Kevin Willard have Villanova set-up to win the Big East next year? My model is projecting that Nova will score over 80ppg next season, a +5 improvement, and putting them just over the 78ppg that St. John's averaged last year. Hinges on Hodge's status coming back from ACL

@heitner 5. You're 100% right about the Cleary fees -- $750k! In 2 months, there's what - 1-2 depositions and a few filings? Almost zero discovery. How is this possibly sustainable?

@heitner 4. Do you think Playfly could sue the CSC for tortious interference with contract? Seems odd that the arbitrator is adjudicating Playfly's contractual rights without Playfly being a party.

The CSC "won" the Nebraska/Playfly arbitration. But the arbitrator noted that CSC's fair-market-value algorithm excludes roughly $80 million in deals deemed not pay-for-play. Expect that methodology to be a problem in future NIL Go battles. linkedin.com/pulse/newslett… #NIL
