A football team’s only chance to succeed—when speaking purely at the starting point, the heart of the matter—is the following: 1. There is one individual at the top who assumes a dictatorship role within a clear hierarchy. Yet, at the same time, the ship doesn’t run as such, and it instead runs in a way where that individual is chairman of the board. 2. Genuineness. The first item allows the entire staff to flourish, and in turn, spreads like wildfire, throughout the locker room, to the players in a leadership-to-leadership-type way. The second item is simple: Kids/football players can spot the frauds a million miles away. No matter the emotion of the moment, the individual at the top must be the genuine thing and never fear the moment’s emotion.
