Eid Mubarak to the Muslim community in Ghana. Today, I joined the Ahlus Sunna Muslim community at the forecourt of the State House, in the company of distinguished Imams, clerics, and other Ghanaians. The Ramadan fast is a demonstration of discipline, sacrifice, and moral renewal. The period calls us to reflect, strengthen our character, and renew our position as responsible members of society. Through this spiritual journey, we are reminded of the values that unite us all. As we celebrate Eid, let us stand together and work towards peace within our nation and across the world. May the blessings of this day fill your hearts with joy, your homes with peace, and our nation with continued unity and harmony.

In December 2022, the Bank of Ghana sold part of the country’s gold reserves; 1.72 tonnes of bullion, valued at about $100 million dollars ($1,820/oz) was what was sold back then. Just by way of public information.

Ministry of Roads & Highways - Ghana
Yesterday, President Mahama inspected the 80km Jinijini–Sampa Road project as part of his “Resetting Ghana Tour” of the Bono region. This vital corridor serves as a lifeline for 12 major towns and dozens of smaller communities. Once completed, the road will act as an economic catalyst, allowing farmers to get their produce to market faster and fresher as well as reducing their transport cost. The President expressed satisfaction with the progress of work. The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Agbodza assured the Chiefs and people that the project will be completed on schedule, with the highest standards and quality emphasizing that “no contractor working under the ‘Big Push’ project will take a cedi without working for it. We will ensure value for every payment made.”

In my remarks, I highlighted the Government’s commitment under the economic reset agenda to position SOEs as engines of value creation, driven by performance, discipline, and accountability. Ongoing reforms led by the Ministry of Finance and SIGA include strengthening corporate governance, enforcing performance contracts, increasing transparency, and promoting financial sustainability. A comprehensive review of the state equity portfolio is also in progress to improve performance, guide strategic investments, and further optimize profitable entities. Additionally, the Public Enterprises League Table (PELT) is serving as a tool to promote transparency, benchmark performance, and encourage continuous improvement across the sector. In light of that, PELT awards will be held this evening to recognize excellence in the sector. Drawing parallels with peer countries pursuing similar reforms, I reaffirmed that improved governance leads to stronger performance and national prosperity. Ultimately, the success of Ghana’s public enterprises is central to our development agenda. We must focus on reducing fiscal risks and transforming our public enterprises into engines of shared prosperity.
