And a lot of pointless situationships and loveless relationships would end, if people realized they don’t need to be in a relationship. Being single and just living your life is the default, you were born into this world as an individual. Being in a relationship is something you consciously do, BECAUSE you love and admire a person. Because something has been activated within you.

Kids with low cognitive ability aren't able to reap benefits from difficult content, so they're not going to seek it out, and it doesn't help if you give it to them, and anybody who's tried figures that out pretty quickly, which is why they stopped bothering.

My hypothesis re: the 8th grade reading problem is that, although students may have been taught reading skills properly, they don't have the background knowledge they need to understand what they're reading, which is the result of weak and unrepresentative reading content.
