I accidentally booked the wrong flight.
Asked @usefaff to call Indigo and ask for a full refund because of the '24 hour' DGCA rule.
In 2 hours, Indigo cancelled the ticket and 5 days later I have a full refund :)

if @usefaff just did refunds / customer care mgmt, they will still be worth the ₹2k/mo

Extremely sad that in Digital India, some absolute basics are still not digitalised.
Sharing this so you can inform your family.....this can happen to anyone.
Yesterday, a relative called me in panic.
His Axis current + savings accounts were showing ₹4,00,000 balance.
No message. No email. No prior intimation.
We called Axis Bank customer care.
Response: “Account is on hold/freeze/lien as per court order.”
Complete shock.
He has no idea about any dispute, case, or transaction that could lead to this.
When we asked for a copy of the court order, the answer was:
👉 “You’ll have to visit the branch.”
Seriously?
It’s Saturday–Sunday. Banks are closed.
So for 2 days, a customer can’t even read the document explaining why his money is frozen.
How difficult is it for a bank to:
• Email the court order
• Or send it via courier
• Or at least notify the customer before freezing the account?
Imagine how terrifying this is for someone new to digital banking.
Zero clarity. Zero communication. Full panic.
Account frozen. Funds blocked.
And the customer finds out after it happens.
This is the reality of banking in India today.

Wow, didn't expect US to slap a 100k PER YEAR fee on H1B. I was in US for 15 years on H1B, that would have meant a $1.5M fee paid to the gov. While I was working on semicon in US (a critical area, not IT) my salary was <$100k. No way AMD would have hired me. I published papers, patents but many of my colleagues were far more prolific in their research and >50% were immigrants. Same is true in bio, space, robotics outside of high paying cities & well funded startups and big tech. This will:
1) advantage big tech and they'll concentrate talent and power over others
2) lead to higher "return to home country" in short term not just for the average IT worker but many highly skilled PhD sorts; India needs to be ready to give them a career or they move to Australia, UK, etc, or worse, lead unhappy careers. This is really tricky as most countries are pushing back on foreign workers.
3) full outsourcing of research functions to countries like India. 20-30% of US semicon talent already exists in India.
4) longer term fewer student applicants to US outside of the really hopeful ones who feel like they'll have a good shot of being highly desired in the H1B market in US.
The second/third order affects will be pretty complicated.

I had just started as an SDE intern, and was fiddling around with the code base.
Me: Hey, can you send me the link to our version control system?
Mentor: Umm, what!?
Me: You know, where we keep our code backup...
Mentor: Hmm, is there a need for that?
Me: Yeah, I mean, my past experience tells me to always backup code, just in case something goes wrong.
Mentor: Ohh, that's easy. I'll teach you how I do it.
So, he comes to my workplace, and does this:
1. Go to your workspace folder.
2. Right click it.
3. Zip it.
4. Open outlook.
5. Compose email.
6. Attach the zip file.
7. Mail to yourself.
8. That's how it's done!
I was like what the hell!?!?! Is this really happening?? And then he started basking in his glory, as if he had taught me some secret hack! Seeing this, I couldn't even get myself to introduce him to git. That was the worst part.

today I was talking with a TCS guy. Bro downloads repo in zip file instead of cloning, lol.

@iamcherry0697 Any guidance on how do we get into technical role like sde or something like that
English

@poyimone There are plenty, some of them are
- Infra Developer (requires strong hand in C++)
- FPGA roles (latency stuff)
- Data Team
- Operations Team

Very smart.
If quantum computing breaks SHA256, there's no way the hackers can open more than one wallet.

India has tried building gas turbine engines before. And we’ve come close.
At LAT, we want to get past the finish line. So we’re putting together a propulsion research team in Bangalore, focused solely on building gas turbine engines from scratch. Lightweight. Efficient. Flight-ready. Made in India.
What’s different this time?
We’re giving engineers the freedom to think, build, break, and repeat. Our dedicated research centre — with labs for combustion, turbomachinery, thermal systems, and materials, will give engineers the space and freedom to iterate fast, and get to real outcomes at a speed which is unprecedented in the industry.
Also, this team will be led by engineers. No waiting around for approvals from "business" people. No chasing slides or meetings. Just hands-on problem solving, running bench tests, working with suppliers, building hardware from scratch — and pushing the limits of design and physics every day.
It won’t be easy. But if it works, it changes everything. A full engine stack, built locally. Powering STOL aircraft. UAVs. Remote connectivity. Self-reliance.
If you’ve ever built turbines, rotors, control systems — or anything close — and want to be part of something that could one day, rewrite history, write to us at engines@lat.com
