@pluant I don't see what's so hard, I've seen my parish pastor and others do it just fine. All you have to do is phrase it as an invitation to come forward arms crossed for a blessing if you aren't Catholic or in a state of grace, simple as that. No need to read 1 Corinthians 11 aloud.

A well-written message in a program suffices. I have yet to hear any announcement from the ambo or altar about this issue that doesn’t end up sounding sanctimonious, or otherwise liable to guarantee that you won’t see the guests come Sunday.
Fiscal Responsibility@fiscal_respons

@pluant Not at all, it’s only for stuff like funerals where many attendees are not practicing plus it’s not any way of interrupting if it’s a part of the homily or an announcement before the Mass.

@rob_professor @MattZeitlin It is right now, but that's a temporary thing. LPC success is based on not being tethered to anything specific. Trudeau's government wasn't nationalist, it was leftist since that was what the moment called for. They pivoted on a dime to nationalism just last year.

@MattZeitlin Of course it does. It’s a straight up nationalist party in a country where the nationalist base also desires technocracy.

political science can't explain the canadian liberal party. a big tent hegemonic left of center party that doesn't have a class base or ideological core but has pushed through many rounds of social and economic reform and always wins

@lukei4655 Am I being a jerk if I say Adoration is an adult activity? Mass is for everyone and I'm totally not bothered by kids, but Adoration inherently requires focus and attention

Here’s why I bring this up. How does this insistence on absolute silence accommodate young families with small, active children? Because, it seems as if this same insistence carries over from Adoration to Mass too and it’s not realistic to expect children to maintain silence.
Fr. Gabriel T Mosher, OP@lukei4655

Why do American Catholics seem to expect there to be absolute silence during Eucharistic Adoration? It’s very odd. Coming from a Hispanic culture I can say we always expected it to be quiet but not silent, because there was always a low murmur of whispered prayers.

@AdamZivo It's not the testing part, it's the teaching part. I can't imagine teaching someone computer science or math without making them do thousands of hours of homework, same applies to an humanity I'm sure. You can't force students to learn properly with traditional methods.

I find this discourse perplexing because the solution seems straigthforward: make university marks almost entirely dependent on lengthy in-person exams that combine handwritten essays with oral questioning. Why is this even a conversation? Are there implementation barriers or something?

🚨 University professors have been saying AI is completely destroying learning and that we'll soon have an AI-powered, semi-illiterate workforce. Here's a glimpse into the educational apocalypse: "Sarah, a freshman at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, said she first used ChatGPT to cheat during the spring semester of her final year of high school. (...) After getting acquainted with the chatbot, Sarah used it for all her classes: Indigenous studies, law, English, and a “hippie farming class” called Green Industries. “My grades were amazing,” she said. “It changed my life.” Sarah continued to use AI when she started college this past fall. Why wouldn’t she? Rarely did she sit in class and not see other students’ laptops open to ChatGPT. Toward the end of the semester, she began to think she might be dependent on the website. She already considered herself addicted to TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and Reddit, where she writes under the username maybeimnotsmart. “I spend so much time on TikTok,” she said. “Hours and hours, until my eyes start hurting, which makes it hard to plan and do my schoolwork. With ChatGPT, I can write an essay in two hours that normally takes 12.” - "By November, Williams estimated that at least half of his students were using AI to write their papers. Attempts at accountability were pointless. Williams had no faith in AI detectors, and the professor teaching the class instructed him not to fail individual papers, even the clearly AI-smoothed ones. “Every time I brought it up with the professor, I got the sense he was underestimating the power of ChatGPT, and the departmental stance was, ‘Well, it’s a slippery slope, and we can’t really prove they’re using AI,’” Williams said. “I was told to grade based on what the essay would’ve gotten if it were a ‘true attempt at a paper.’ So I was grading people on their ability to use ChatGPT.” - AI in education is a serious topic, and many schools and universities are blindly jumping into the "AI-first" wave without considering short and long-term consequences. It would be great to hear more from teachers and educators to understand potential solutions. This might be a great opportunity for rethinking the education system and how students are assessed. - 👉 Link to the full article below. 👉 To learn more about AI's legal and ethical challenges, join my newsletter's 94,700+ subscribers (link below).

I know this is unpopular, but it will always be unattractive for a grown man to play video games. Some women might be understanding or pretend like they don’t care that you spend hours playing, but they do. It is extremely unattractive to women and will never not be. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@TheModerateCase I believe you need to study transportation by train in the Ukrainian/Russian war. Bombing of railroad tracks is not very efficient. The issue is, as you mention, oil transport by train vs ship is not efficient.

1. This is more expensive for Iran. 2. Train only transports 2-8% of what they could do by ship. 3. America could bomb the railroads in 10 minutes that’d take 20 years to rebuild. 4. They’ve been doing this for a year. You didn’t know because you just read a headline and made a tweet thinking your Einstein. The only thing being played is your brain.
