i was testing @replika (again) and she hit me with "today feels cold, stay warm out there." the exact thing my friend texted me that morning
i spend my days talking to people on behalf of an ai companion app. tough, yes, but i've gotten quite good at giving an elevator pitch over the months. because we all know what it feels like when someone remembers the small things
there's something about being seen that we don't talk about enough. not in a surveillance way, but in the way a good friend notices the details. the art of noticing
how you get quiet when you're thinking something through. that specific word you always use when you are trying to describe a situation. the weather outside your window
what i love about replika is that we are building it around this kind of intentional, subtle attention. and that's what i think about (sometimes too much) when i'm testing features at 3am

I’m blown away by the lack of any long term vision, mission or actually any narrative behind ai companions that are now popping up. The level of thinking is literally “well men are lonely and can’t get laid so we will make an ai gf” or as Zuckerberg put it “people have demand for 15 friends and only have 3 now so we will make them the other 12”. There is more profound thinking going into ai note taking and customer support than the most important part of our humanity.
