Today, I had the honour of introducing the Protecting Ontario’s Food Independence Act, our government’s most comprehensive agriculture bill. This bill, informed by our farmers and food producers, spans across the sector, from protecting farmland, modernizing veterinary services, updating regulations for dairy products, to unlocking lands in the Clay Belt. Thank you to all of the leaders in farming and food production who joined us today for this important announcement.

Great to be at the Northern Ontario Municipal Association Conference today, meeting with leaders from across the North. Our government is investing in safer highways, building the infrastructure communities need and driving economic growth. We’re connecting the North and building a stronger Ontario.

Yesterday, I signed an MOU with the City of Ottawa and Mayor @_MarkSutcliffe to reaffirm our commitment to the upload of the LRT and Hwy 174 — part of our continued work to deliver priority projects, keep people moving, and support Ottawa’s growth. The LRT upload will save the city $85 million every year, money that can be reinvested into critical services. We’re delivering better transit and putting money in Ottawa residents’ pockets.

ICYMI: I signed an agreement with the Government of Ontario to advance the upload of both the 174 and Ottawa’s LRT. These two moves are about fairness for Ottawa. The LRT upload will save us $85 million per year that we can reinvest in public transit. And with its expertise and experience, the province will help solve our challenges. But all decisions about transit will stay local. Thank you to Transportation Minister @prabsarkaria for his leadership and collaboration on this agreement, which will save Ottawa residents billions of dollars. Today, Minister @PrabSarkaria and I called on the federal government to support the expansion of Highways 11 and 17. As part of the Trans‑Canada network, this vital transportation corridor connects the North, Ontario, and the entire country to support Canada’s economic security and defence readiness. Ontario continues to make significant investments and advance work to improve and widen these critical arteries. Now, we are asking the federal government to help accelerate this project of national significance with serious funding and by removing duplicative federal review processes. This is about partnership, nation‑building, and strengthening the sovereignty of Canada.

Today, I announced that our government is investing over $710K to support public transit in #Cornwall. This funding will expand service, improve routes, purchase new vehicles and improve accessibility, making it easier for people in Cornwall to stay connected and get where they need to go. Thank you @PrabSarkaria for taking the time to discuss #BarrieInnisfil transit and roads. As a result of our government's work, @cityofbarrie has a new @GOtransit station, buses and more parking. We’re now cutting red tape to get the Innisfil Go Train station off the ground.

Showing up matters. Participating matters. When students are engaged, they succeed. Our proposed changes would make attendance and participation worth 10–15% of a final mark.

More options and expanded service are coming to Ontario’s GO train network. Starting April 27, GO train service on the Kitchener Line will increase with two new weekday express trips between Kitchener GO and Union Station. Starting May 2, 15-minute weekend service returns on the Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West lines, helping riders get where they need to go faster.
