19 years ago, a high school basketball coach put his team manager into a game for the final four minutes. The kid had never played a single minute of competitive basketball in his life. He scored 20 points. Jason McElwain was diagnosed with severe autism at age two. He didn’t speak until he was five. He couldn’t chew solid food until he was six. He wore a nappy for most of his early childhood. As a baby, he was rigid, wouldn’t make eye contact, and hid in corners away from other children. He tried out for his school basketball team every year and got cut every time. Too small. Too slight. Barely 5’6 and about 54 kilograms. But he loved the game so much that his mum called the school and asked if there was any way he could be involved. The coach created a team manager role for him. For three years, McElwain showed up to every practice and every game. He wore a shirt and tie on match days. He ran drills, handed out water, kept stats, and cheered every basket like he’d scored it himself. On 15 February 2006, the last home game of his final school year, the coach let him suit up in a proper jersey and sit on the bench. With four minutes left and a comfortable lead, the coach sent him in. His first shot missed. His second missed. Then something shifted. He hit a three-pointer. Then another. Then another. His teammates stopped shooting entirely and just kept passing him the ball. He hit six three-pointers and a two-pointer. 20 points in four minutes. The highest scorer in the game. When the final buzzer went, the entire crowd rushed the court and lifted him onto their shoulders. His mum tapped the coach on the shoulder, in tears. “This is the nicest gift you could have ever given my son.” McElwain won the ESPY Award for Best Moment in Sports that year, beating out some of the biggest names in professional sport. He’s 36 now. He works at a local supermarket, coaches basketball, has run 17 marathons including five Boston Marathons, and travels the country speaking about never giving up. When asked about that night, his coach still gets emotional. “For him to come in and seize the moment like he did was certainly more than I ever expected. I was an emotional wreck.”

@fbrooster @PeteThamel Per Claude: The First Four games averaged roughly 1.8–2 million viewers per game in 2025. Meanwhile: First/Second round games averaged 9.4 million per game — about 4-5x more. Not enough shine.

DC’s food scene is legit world class now. Set aside even the Michelin star restaurants; the corner bistros, eateries, every day restaurants are so good. World class chefs are migrating to DC en masse to constantly up level the food scene!
Mayor Muriel Bowser@MayorBowser

2015: No Michelin stars in DC (yet) 2017: 12 Michelin-starred restaurants Today: 21 Michelin-starred restaurants We're proud of DC's world-class restaurant and hospitality scene, and I'm proud to have supported it throughout my tenure as your Mayor.

1. You approved the full repair 2 months ago 2. Then you sent the wrong parts 3. Only after persistent nagging (and 3 months of no heat during the winter), did you then close the case, paying a fraction of the overall costs 4. I could’ve bet on this conclusion because you all are frauds.

@premal2000 Hello Mr. Shah, We regret to hear that we did not meet your expectation. The warranty is designed to assist with these more costly items at wholesale price. This is how we are able to offer you the warranty at the cost you pay. American Home Shield

After 3 months of a runaround, not having heat during the winter, @AHS_Warranty approved the repairs. Only to then claim they couldn’t find the parts and/or tech to fix the heating/AC. So instead, they closed the case and paid less than 20% the cost of repair. Fraud. Perhaps the government should look into these entities for massive fraudulent practices? @CommerceGov @BBBKY $FTDR

@andrewgordonmac @SpotHero If it’s increasing supply, reducing pricing while still keeping the UX the same (or better) through the UberOne ecosystem, I’m hopeful.

Love @SpotHero and use it all the time in SF. I hope this doesn’t change the experience.

Uber is acquiring @SpotHero! 🅿️🚗 We built @Uber around enabling more people to get around without a car, but for times when you do choose to drive - commutes, events, family travel, airports - soon you'll be able to reserve a spot right from the Uber app

@ThingsChas82604 @pitdesi Yes, but I’m not sure how much the hardware/software leap by R2 will close the growth curves going forward. Ie, a lot of training data being generated by both companies—how much before you see diminishing returns on that vs a step up in hardware/software? 🤷🏽‍♂️

@premal2000 @pitdesi Hey, I want a legit competitor too. But what you said assumes FSD will not continue to improve at the same time, which is highly unlikely.

So sad. I grew up reading the @washingtonpost sports section. I learned to read and write in part by reading Tony, @RealMikeWilbon, @davidaldridgedc, @SallyJenki. It was the murderer’s row of sports. Even as a Bay Area resident now, I read the sports section everyday, with brilliant writers like Barry, @ChuckCulpepper1. To know that my hometown paper is not covering the teams I love so much is disheartening.

I just DM’d you. But I doubt you’ll really care. 2+ months of dragging feet, doing everything you can to not do the right thing. When three people you dispatch all say the same thing yet you still want to deny deny deny, admit you’re a scam. I don’t want to interact with chatbots, get letters in the mail. I need you to do the right thing.

If the government wants to protect consumers, they should look into absolute scam artists like @AHS_Warranty and other home insurance companies. They’ll do anything and everything not to pay but will gladly accept your money. No heating during the winter for months while they scam.
