Once a Musketeer, always a Musketeer.

NIL killed Cinderella… 10-16 seeds in this year’s men’s basketball tournament went 3-25 in the first round, with an average point differential of -13. Prior to NIL those seeds would typically win about 8 games in the 1st round with a point differential around 1/2 of this year.

Good news: this year’s 1 seeds aren’t as far away from the rest of the field as 2025. Bad news: the gap between 1-5s and 12-16s is the largest in at least 25 years. Another upset-light NCAA Tournament appears likely. For @basket_review: basketunderreview.com/a-historical-a…

Not only are there just four double-digit seeds left, not only did all favorites win yesterday, the games haven’t been particularly close. Per ESPN Research, the average margin of victory in the first round was 17.4 points, the highest since the tournament expanded in 1985.

I'm afraid bracketology will be basically extinct within the next two years. When the field expands to 76 or whatever it expands to, they'll just let WAB determine everything. Like the BCS days of college football.
