excited to share my most involved work yet, 2+ years in progress! Computing Shrines are site-specific sculptures that co-opt our devices to foster local connection in everyday places. Each shrine connects visitors to a communal website to exchange small intimacies among visitors

@abidaker I think the comment says more about their state of mind than it does about your work, I really liked your biro drawing of Manchester ☺️

@abidaker Get a normal job - no one will buy enough pics off you to make a living. Especially such a specific style. Who actually wants a line drawing of a city at home? So much competition. So much AI... Being an artist is for rich kids who don't have to worry about food and housing.

... We'll have another meet early July and a big two-day one in August to change the tow cable. We need some younger and fitter help for that! 🙂 Please make a big effort to attend at in August especially - we need to get the cable changed to ski next season Dates TBC.

Good work meet today, but with just eight volunteers - all pensioners. Pomas now removed, more work on the landslip carried out, toilet water supply pipe desilted and skis in the members' hut sorted, with some unused ones carried down...

Last semester I taught a class centered on real-time 3D, modeling for games, and immersive environments. All the material is here, including project files and many hours of tutorials: mycours.es/gamestudio2022/ Some final projects:

like ideally, you organize your project in a way that things you're changing at the same time are located 'close to each other', and the uniform spatial layout here gives that a literal meaning

I guess if you had all your project's code on some spatial canvas thing, you could start to pay attention to things like 'how much distance am I usually traveling on this canvas to make code changes' (in pixels or meters or whatever)

@samnewman I really liked the part on shared static data in Building Microservices. I have written about how we applied it at Wise and used DDD aggregates to depend on behaviour instead of the data itself medium.com/transferwise-e…

@ryancbriggs @MaxCRoser The US went from 70% of consumer spending on goods, to 70% on services is less than one lifetime. Growth reduces environmental damage, not least becuase we value it more when we are more affluent.

A reason why people say “rich countries don’t need growth” is that they (often rightly) think, we don’t need more of the same. But much of the growth that rich countries need are things that don’t exist yet. A vaccine that protects from all coronaviruses, zero-carbon planes, etc

@HicksCBER @ryancbriggs @MaxCRoser Hi Michael, I like the optimism and am interested to learn more. From 1990 to 2007, as GDP grew in high-income countries, so did their global material footprints. And not just by a little bit: the US and the UK both saw their footprints grow by more than 30% over that period;
