Pregnant women are innocent. Women who have sex are innocent. Women who have a condition that makes pregnancy particularly dangerous are innocent. They all deserve to live and not to be harmed. So why the focus on the “innocence” of the thing harming them?

@BibleBashed I mean, I think it's kind of rude, but I don't think it's rape. Tbh, I think we have this whole idea of consent all wrong. I taught my kids that if not everyone is having fun, then no one is having fun (in general) but sex in marriage is something more than just fun.

@ShayWoulahan I would say the person who gave birth is the mother. But I don’t label women as mothers unless they want to be, so I’m uncertain about using that language.

I’ve been researching into the ethics of surrogacy and I find it really interesting that some countries legally consider the surrogate the mother and others the woman whose egg it is the mother. I’m curious what everyone thinks? Who is the mother?

@OliveLemon77 @kenzietuff I’m looking forward to the day when a woman dying for a fetus becomes unthinkable. As it is now, ordering women to give up their lives is more socially acceptable than criticizing pregnancy, or inseminators’ selfishness.

Years and years ago, my husband (then boyfriend) had a discussion about "save the baby or save the mother" situations, and he said he would save the baby, and I was incredibly hurt. Then I gave birth, and that reaction I had at the time is flat out embarrassing to me.

8 years ago today, Iver was born. My wife, Robyn, who’s brain had stopped working, but her body and heart had been keeping Iver alive for weeks 22-28 of her pregnancy, would be taken off of life support. The 5 hours between meeting Iver and saying goodbye to Robyn were the hardest moments of my life. I lost my wife, but I was given the gift of becoming a father to my little miracle man. Iver was born 2lbs 13oz, and we spent the next 12 weeks in the NICU before I came home with him. Today, he’s 8. He’s incredibly smart, funny, caring, outgoing, loving, thoughtful, adventurous, and kind. I’m grateful for every day with this wonderful boy, and for the gift of being his father.
