There's an inherent selection bias you're failing to account for: healthy men who are satisfied with their anatomy aren't likely to sign up to have surgery performed on it. How can it be claimed that the results from the studies are generalizable when the design disproportionately excludes those who would be most likely to report a negative difference?

@Paraplane100 @DrJaredRoss @PeterBrochant Yes. Also many confounding factors were not accounted for. Many women in these studies did not even know the circumcision status of their partner. There seems to be no hard evidence that circumcision prevents its occurrence in Jewish women.

@DrJaredRoss @jpclemens @PeterBrochant Jonathan has blocked me but Jewish women are less susceptible to cervical cancer due to genetics. Same reason they are more susceptible to other diseases. It has nothing to do with their husbands being mutilated.

(NB googling suggests going into shock from circumcising is rare) One of my beliefs whose unpopularity absolutely mystifies me is that circumcision on babies that isn’t medically necessary should be illegal. Life doesn’t give you questions this easy very often.

You use this tool to stick under the foreskin and break the membrane that "glues" the foreskin to the glans during infant circumcision. Yes, the foreskin is glued to the glans at birth and separates naturally over time, usually completely dissolved during puberty.

We've known this for years, cannabis makes mental health issues worse! Medical cannabis was just a cockamamie pathway to recreational cannabis. Put whatever you want in your own body, but stop pretending it is medicine!

@TheeAquarian28 @jpclemens @DrJaredRoss No one speaks of this bias! The point of the circumcision studies are to find benefits, since that is the goal they will achieve that one way or another. Vice-versa for FGM's harms. The "benefits" are about the same as circ's benefits, just they aren't searched for.

@jpclemens @DrJaredRoss If you stacked the WHO with a bunch of Indonesians, they will swear up and down, that the mildest forms of FGM have “health benefits” and even will fight against bans. They will find every way to defend their cultural practice and make it out to be less barbaric.

I attribute a lot of society's insanity to circumcision, because circumcision is just a ritual trauma performed on a child and subconsciously, most men's deep deep inner child is like confused as to why someone took their first moment on earth and sexually traumatized them.

@TheeAquarian28 @BobSee123 @jpclemens @DrJaredRoss right? women do get clitoral phimosis, and women claim increased pleasure from labiaplasties. sometimes even lowered UTIs. should we use that evidence to cut them in advance? no? then why are we using the African circ trials based on ADULTS to cut infants?
