There's a pavement near me which the tree roots have seriously raised up. One has to step over it. Many councils would consider chopping the tree down. Instead, why not fill the area with bountiful planting and create a pavement bypass. More function and more beauty.

Here is the problem. Anselm's argument from divine simplicity to divine timelessness relies on the premise that "conceptual distinctions are foreign to God." But it is ignorant to quote Anselm saying that. So I guess reconstructing Anselm's argument is ignorance.

I am writing a lecture at the moment where I directly quote Anselm, but an internet classical theist recently told me that quoting Anselm makes me ignorant. I thought about quoting Avicenna instead, but that is also ignorant. I'm not sure what to do.

Imagine awaiting your death in prison for a crime you did not commit. Imagine your anger, resentment, and sorrow. What would you do? ➡️Well, in AD 524, St. Boethius found himself in such a situation—but he did not break. Instead, he wrote The Consolation of Philosophy, one of the greatest works you could read. Lady Philosophy appears, challenging his despair through difficult questions: ➡️Why do the good suffer while the wicked thrive? ➡️What is true happiness when fortune betrays us? Through piercing dialogue, St. Boethius learns suffering strips away illusions—wealth, power, fame—and reveals the unchanging Good to which he must conform himself. St. Boethius invites you to join him—to allow Lady Philosophy to forge your soul in a beautiful, unbreakable resilience. More: theascent.io/p/how-st-boeth…

A mesmerising film from 1900. A tram glides through Southampton High Street, pulling you into late Victorian life as it passes under the medieval Bargate and down the street.

Calling dads! I am so excited to share this news. For months I have been telling you that the “dad’s study” is underway—it really is! We have conducted fifteen pilot interviews within a three-hour drive of the DMV region. We have cleaned up transcripts, looked for common threads, and refined our questions. We ready to hit the road and visit with dads all around the country. Please help us cast the widest net by sharing this call for subjects here on X and in your local networks and other socials, especially if you have contacts in one of our ten regions (below). Men beyond those regions may apply, and will be considered as research needs indicate. Continue reading for the full invitation and link to application. Let’s go! __ Attention families with 5+ children! We are inviting all American-born fathers who have 5 or more biological (or adopted) children to apply for our upcoming study “America’s Dads with the Most Kids: Motive and Meaning.” The purpose of this research is to understand why some American dads are choosing to build large, abundant families, and to learn from them what it takes to get there. To apply to participate in a private, in person, open-ended interview, please fill out the following survey: forms.gle/hz3GzARcLA12L4…. We are looking for participants especially in the following cities which we will visit in person. If you or someone you know lives in one of these areas, please forward this post or the survey link directly: New York City metropolitan area, NY-NJ-CT Chattanooga-Cleveland-Dalton, TN-OH Denver-Aurora, CO Chicago–Naperville, IL–IN–WI Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington, TX San Francisco Bay Area, CA Phoenix-Scottsdale metropolitan area, AZ Salt Lake City-Provo-Orem, UT Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL Washington-Baltimore-Arlington, DC-MD-VA-WV-PA Again, please fill out the following survey to apply to offer your perspectives on fatherhood in a private interview: forms.gle/hz3GzARcLA12L4….

One of my 2025 highlights was a week of rafting on the Colorado River through Grand Canyon. Grateful to my dad for letting me accompany him on one of his most-cherished "bucket list" items. The trip inspired me to read this (excellent) book about hiking the Grand Canyon. Next-level stuff: a.co/d/02XSlX8

See all that awful in the world? The injustice, heartache, and futility? That is precisely what Christ died for. In fact, he didn’t just die for the injustices OUT THERE, but also for the injustices IN YOU and IN ME. By his wounds we all are healed.
