Famine has now been confirmed in Gaza. Over half a million people are facing the most devastating form of hunger, warns @theIPCinfo. An immediate ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian access is imperative to save lives. wfp.org/news/famine-co… — via @WFP

The truth about Red Cross Donation Centers Man hides a GPS tracker in shoes he donates to the Red Cross. Turns out the clothing doesn’t go to people in need for free. It’s sold in retail shops “This guy donated his old shoes to a Red Cross container in Germany, but he hid a GPS tracker inside. Just 5 days later, they traveled 800 kilometers through Zagreb and ended up in a second hand shop in Bosnia. So he flew there, walked into the store, and found his exact shoes for sale for €10. The staff said that the items come from Germany, but there was no mention of the Red Cross. He bought his own shoes back. And now everyone's asking, where did donated clothes really go?” They’re sold.

Columbia leadership released its response to losing $400M in Federal funding today. At 800+ words, it manages to communicate nothing. When we went to @Columbia, you had to be a better thinker - and a better writer - than this.

@AlanRMacLeod Memories from G@za: Sitting on the rubble, they were breaking their fast, the words "ALHAMDULILLAH" were on their tongues. People are learning 'firm faith' in God from G@za 💪💪

OMG. VP JD VANCE: If American democracy can survive 10 years of Greta Thunberg's scolding, you guys can survive a few months of Elon Musk.

Must watch video of Zach Sage Fox going undercover at Jewish Voices for Peace meeting at Cornell. Spoiler: They’re not Jewish and they have zero knowledge of the Middle East.

In some quarters in the US there's a hateful stereotype that everyone in Gaza is a terrorist supporter, and perhaps that makes it easier to excuse the bombing of entire neighborhoods. In Gaza, @OmarHamadD found a destroyed house with my book about empowering women worldwide, "Half the Sky" (written with Sheryl @WuDunn). It's an English-language book that must have belonged to a sensitive and tolerant soul, for it is a passionate call for gender equality and blunt about gender challenges in some of the Muslim world. I don't know what happened to the people living in the house or if they survived, but I'm sick at the thought that my tax dollars supported the destruction and perhaps killing of this reader of mine.

Fellow academics: This is nuts. Stop doing this. It makes you look like an out-of-touch crazy person. It further erodes respect for higher ed and trust in academic research. And it’s not good for your students. thecrimson.com/article/2024/1…
