People are often confused about the meaning of the term Pahari. For some it is a cultural identity & for some it is a political one. Govt and media sources tend to portray it as an unique singular identity. #himachalPradesh #uttarakhand #pahari #Jammu

The second term in the second case corresponds to uṭṭal from Sanskrit root √ṭal/√ṭval meaning to shake, tremble, or be agitated. This would ultimately mean "buzzes while remaining agitated".

The second part in the first case corresponds to nakula which means mongoose. This compound makes Squirrel to be a "Squeaky Mongoose". Modern day term for a mongoose is nôḷ.

@pahadiheritage Similar thing happened in a Kumauni song, Baramasa, where many realised baramasa as evergreen but instead it is from बड़ा मास (बड़ा महीना for us). In Birsu Thani, a Jaunsari Harul song, 'bharme na jaye birsu' is thought to be either refering to bharam khat or varmā>bharmā

For GarhKumo āp like forms are likely recent entrants. Otherwise we have āp like forms for first person reflexive, which is what it was truly for all!

Coincidentally, the Gen Z slang cooked and Kahluri slang राढुरा/राढिरा rā́ḍure/rā́ḍire is used in a very similar context and literally means the same thing. Example: Bro, he got us mad cooked. भाई, तिस आसें बुरे राढुरे। pā́ī/bā́ī, tis āheṁ bure rā́ḍure.
