“A refugee insider mediator is not an outsider brought to solve conflict, but a trusted member of the community using dialogue, understanding, and shared experience to prevent violence and rebuild peace.” Today, we began strengthening a new cadre of refugee insider mediators in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement through training on inclusive peacebuilding, mediation, and conflict de-escalation. This is under our Peacebuilding and Climate Action project in partnership with @fca_uganda @FCA_global with funding from @Ulkoministerio #PeacebuildingandClimateAction

Climate, peace, and security are closely linked. Environmental pressures such as resource scarcity, climate change, and ecosystem degradation can worsen existing social, political, and economic tensions, increasing the likelihood of conflict and weakening long-term peace. In partnership with @fca_uganda, @FCA_global, with funding from @Ulkoministerio, we are implementing the Peacebuilding and Climate Action project in Kasese and Kiryandongo. The project strengthens peaceful and climate-resilient communities by empowering youth and women, promoting inclusive local governance, and building mediation capacity to ensure marginalized groups influence fair and sustainable peace outcomes. #Peacebuildingandclimateaction

🌳 The climate crisis is no longer only an environmental issue; it is a security issue, a governance issue, and ultimately a peace issue. Today in Kasese, we launch a robust dissemination of the resilience rising research report. The research was conducted in Burkina Faso, Niger, Pakistan, Philippines, Somalia, and Uganda This comparative study was co-designed by the @KofiAnnanFdn, @SIPRIorg and young researchers from these six nations to explore the intersection of climate change and conflict through the lived experiences of young people. The dissemination meeting is funded by @fca_uganda @FCA_global and @Ulkoministerio Read more: prospectinitiative.org/images/Reports…

Approximately 73.3% of youth report decreased agricultural productivity, while 76.96% report destruction of property due to climate-related events . These losses undermine economic stability and deepen poverty, increasing grievances and the risk of conflict in already fragile settings. This research was conducted in Burkina Faso, Niger, Pakistan, the Philippines, Somalia, and Uganda. This comparative study was co-designed by the @KofiAnnanFdn, @SIPRIorg, and young researchers from these six nations to explore the intersection of climate change and conflict through the lived experiences of young people. This dissemination is implemented in partnership with @fca_uganda, @FCA_global, and funded by @Ulkoministerio. Explore more here: prospectinitiative.org/images/Reports… #PeacebuildingandClimateAction

🌱Is climate change quietly driving conflict among young people in Uganda? New evidence from Prospect Initiative’s Resilience Rising report highlights a strong link between environmental stress and rising tensions in vulnerable communities. In the Rwenzori sub-region, climate-related shocks such as floods and droughts are disrupting livelihoods and increasing competition over land and water. Nearly 58% of respondents believe climate change is worsening youth vulnerability. Explore the findings: prospectinitiative.org/images/Reports… #PeacebuildingClimateAction

Project inception in Kasese and Kiryandongo: District and community leaders in Kasese & Kiryandongo districts, came together to coin a shared response to the growing intersection of climate change & conflict. Through inclusive dialogue with government actors, cultural and religious leaders, civil society, and youth representatives, the inception meetings strengthened collective understanding of climate as a “threat multiplier” and identified practical pathways for coordinated action. From floods and landslides to land pressure and livelihood disruptions, leaders deliberated on lived realities, co-creating locally driven solutions that integrate peacebuilding with environmental action. The engagement reaffirmed a direction that sustainable impact requires community ownership, alignment with existing governance systems, and active participation of youth, women, and local leaders at every stage. This was implemented in partnership with @fca_uganda, @FCA_global and funded by the @Ulkoministerio #PeacebuildingandClimateAction

I had the privilege of attending the Resilience Rising research dissemination meeting convened by @prospectini and Finn Church Aid. Important to note how climate change and conflicts are shaping youth experiences in the Rwenzori sub region, and why youth voices must be central to policy and peacebuilding solutions. #ClimateAction #YouthLeadership #Peacebuilding

Today, I had the privilege of engaging in a meaningful dialogue on the intersection of climate change and peacebuilding in the Rwenzori Sub-region, at the invitation of Prospect Initiative. One thing stood out clearly: the policies are there on paper, but the real challenge is implementation. What young people need now are resources, support, and trust to turn these frameworks into action. In my submission, I reflected on how climate action is still being treated as purely environmental yet in regions like Rwenzori, it is deeply tied to security, conflict, and even violent extremism. Ignoring these linkages risks leaving communities more vulnerable. If we are serious about climate solutions, we must move beyond policy conversations and invest in youth-led, peace-centered approaches that address the realities on the ground. #ClimateSecurity #Peacebuilding #YouthAction

The Intersection of Peacebuilding and Climate Action is underdiscussed. Climate is a peace and security issue, It's time we treat it like one. Thanks to @prospectini for facilitating this discussion and for it's ongoing progress on youth and women trot.

“The policies are there on paper, but the problem comes with implementation... what youth need are resources. Additionally climate action is still too environmental... we are forgetting security, conflict and violent extremism.” ~@Makana_Kennedy #PeacebuildingandClimateAction

“The findings of the Resilience Rising Research study enabled us to appreciate, first hand the socio-economic fragilities faced by the youth as a result of climate change and the urgency with which they should be meaningfully involved in designing both policy and programmatic interventions.” ~ @rodney_adroni #PeacebuildingandClimateAction
