@jmart Yeah, but they need to campaign against the Republicans in congress, not against Trump. Focusing on Trump lets congressional Republicans off the hook.

not the main point here, but has a political party ever been gifted such incredible messaging as Democrats now? President focused on building stuff for himself, naming stuff for himself, enriching self and family plus nonsense games like the below while your gas prices are headed to $5 a gallon because of his elective war.

One of the best job applications ever written came from the hands of Robert Pirosh in 1934. MGM loved it, took him on and he went on to become an Oscar-winning screenwriter.

@prpic29 @SandyofCthulhu For what? They created an empire that up to this day has some effect on the world! That you don't agree with it doesn't mean they didn't want that, their goal was worthy for them, they were capitalist and entrepreneurs, brisket it all to leave a legacy and amass wealth

I don't have any weekly moments quite that good, but I have my regular people, and I appreciate them. Those little human interactions matter! Chatting about nothing with my department's secretary, hearing about her vacation, showing pictures from mine. The dude in the school cafe who sees me immediately sticks my blueberry muffin in the microwave, and then we talk about the weather. My two favorite Yemeni bodega guys, the 19-year-old hip-hop-inflected friendly kid, the older, poor English, but super friendly immigrant dude. The two regular cashiers at the Met Museum cafe are always glad to see me. The guy gives me a fist bump, the woman asks about my girlfriend (I introduced them during one visit). And I still miss the whole staff at my regular bar (I knew all their names!), now closed. I don't drink, but I loved their veggie burger. RIP Sugarburg.

I have been going to this Thai food place for 12 years now. It is good, but thats not why I go there. The reason I go there religiously is because the little Thai lady owner. She is an absolute treat, always happy, always smiling, always wants to know how my jobs are going and wants to see pictures. She gives me a Christmas card every year with 1 free meal, she has ordered special peppers to make my extra hot fried rice even hotter 😂 Just being around her for the 3 mins I'm in there each week is like a reset, it changes my entire day because her happiness is so contagious. Even tho I tip well, I still get the better end of the bargain, because I really cant put a price on how much her aura heals my soul when I am in need of it. 🫶

Yeah but here’s the thing. Deliberately targeting “in amusement parks, resorts and tourist centers” is terrorism.
🇺🇲 Ol' Tanker@OldTankerPhil

@NoahCRothman It's amazing how many people fail to understand the full ramifications of war. People who have no qualm attacking legitimate enemy targets (and even illegitimate ala shipwrecked survivors) and no qualm about collateral damage but arguing the other side doing so is terrorism.

@SandyofCthulhu The idea of Tom is fine. He just has no place in the story. Every single time I reread LoTR, I skip Bombadil.

Of course I can conceive of a great mysterious good. What, in my analysis of Tom, is bad? Is Tom NOT a deus-ex-machina? Does he drive the story forward? Let me make a counter example. Ghan-buri-ghan is just as goofy as Tom. But he fulfills a storyline need, and gives a glimpse of the secret Old World, and of the Good that would be destroyed by Sauron. While I also don’t think the movies need Ghan-buri-Ghan, I think he’s just fine. Not the ham-handed unwelcome intruder of Tom. Let me give an exam
Huckleberry Spyder@crescendogames9

The guy who arguably made H.P. Lovecraft great can't conceive of a good that is beyond human concerns and simply exists. So, sorta a flip of the eldritch horrors of Lovecraft. Interesting.

@SandyofCthulhu Fellow Islamic Republic hater here. But, I am worried that we will trigger a civil war. The civil war in Syria led to ISIS, destabilized the region, and triggered a refugee crisis that impacted much of the world.

Total crime is more important than per capita??? You live in a village with 1 murder a year. I live in a city with 300 murders a year. But my city has 8 million people and your village has 20 people. If I were you, I’d be scared. Per capita is more important.
Jon Snow@JonSnow50616798

@HistoryBoomer Bad way of looking at it, because total crime is a more important stat than per capita crime.

It's because ham is magical. The old Welsh legends discuss how pigs were stolen from the Underworld and brought to us. This is possibly a memory of when the first domestic pigs arrived. Think about how amazing pigs are: 1) they take up almost no space, unlike cows, goats, etc. You just keep them in a sty next to your house. 2) they cost almost nothing to feed. You give them your literal garbage, or drive the herd to some beech mast. Free. 3) EVERY single bit of them is useful. Intestines, liver, brain, tongue, ears, feet. Yum. 4) they taste fantastic. Solid proof that pigs come straight from God or possibly Faery. I personally believe that God's denial of swine to the Israelites was done as discipline and denial to strengthen their spirits. Conclusion: pigs are magic.
Judianna@Judianna

Can someone please clear this up for me? Ever since I can remember, the traditional Easter dinner menu has centered around ham. Ham. Jesus was Jewish. The math isn’t mathing here.
