One of my favorite chesscom features is that when you visit their website from a browser on your PC, you automatically get to become a viewer of a streamer that is featured on the so called ChessTV!🍿 Meanwhile, for everything chess prep, there is my ChessMonitor.com.

I'm convinced that the most demoralizing thing in chess is this.

@EmilSutovsky I enjoyed the events. I liked that the men's and women's playoffs were staggered. It would be good if that could be done with earlier rounds too.

We will talk to players and review it all carefully, but I want to hear your opinion as well. How did you like the format for World Blitz?

So I finished with 7 / 9 and earned my 3rd IM norm!!! This accomplishment feels pretty good. But I'm still not an IM yet because I've never reached 2400 FIDE. Hopefully I can do this in the next month or two. Thanks to Josiah Stearman for organizing the event! 😃

I played a GM in round 9 of my norm tournament. And I won! Below he played Rc6, vying for activity with Ra6. But I play Rh7 and after Ra6 Rh2+ Kd3 Bf2 I win both his g3 and f4 pawns. Instead he had to play Kf3 and defend passively, but it's already not easy at this point.

@ChrisBirdIA Chris, i don’t think we as should be normalizing tantrums like that. It does affect players who are in a middle of a game who hear loud noises. In many sports such acts are penalized as unsportsmanlike behavior in order to send a message to younger athletes.

@PHChess I get that it is fun for the players. It isn't fun for the spectators though.

To be more pedantic - if it is an obvious and forced move, then the human player isn't contributing any distinct insight, they are simply agreeing with the engine suggested move? My point is that if the human follows along in a Stockfish vs Stockfish game, and adds a move that doesn't align with the Stockfish suggested option, that contribution will typically always result in a loss.

So after all these hours talking about AI, in these last five minutes I am going to talk about: Horses. Engines, steam engines, were invented in 1700. And what followed was 200 years of steady improvement, with engines getting 20% better a decade. For the first 120 years of that steady improvement, horses didn't notice at all. Then, between 1930 and 1950, 90% of the horses in the US disappeared. Progress in engines was steady. Equivalence to horses was sudden.

@GMJacobAagaard Elo is useful for some things but not world rankings. The FIDE Circuit seems flawed too though. Chess has no stable circuit and never has. Plus why exclude games between top layers in top leagues

@pscooksey The rating system is bonkers. Winning against me and drawing Magnus with Black in a last round may give you the same rating outcome (used to anyway). Obviously, I am a pushover. And if you play me, the game is not important...

Notice that Bluebaum is number 5. Winning the European Championship, qualifying via the Grand Swiss and other good results may not affect his rating much, but only four players have had better results this year.

🇮🇳 Praggnanandhaa R has won the FIDE Circuit 2025, securing a spot in the 2026 Candidates Tournament! 👏 Congratulations to @rpraggnachess, who deservedly earned one of the eight slots in the 2026 Candidates. The young Indian has been the best FIDE Circuit player throughout the year, winning the Tata Steel Masters, Superbet Chess Classic Romania, UzChess Cup Masters, and London Chess Classic Open, and finishing second in the Stepan Avagyan Memorial and 12th Sinquefield Cup. ℹ️ More info: fide.com/praggnanandhaa…

The World Cup is happening right now. None of the top 3 players in the world participate, but right now instead plays a weekly online event " Titled Tuesday" It would cause an outrage in any other sport, but is the "normal" in chess.
