In a first-person narrative the implied assumption is that the character has lived the events and is telling the story later after it’s all over, so past tense generally makes more sense in my opinion.

@psvm_john @glrsilva98 @LegoRacers2 The point is that certain parts were added later, and to act like this was some sort of pre-planned thing is just wrong. Whether or not it was given a possible retcon later doesn’t change that at the time, it was a mistake in set design.
