@IroncladDev i use Artix so my vote is for OpenRC or dinit. on my weaker laptop i’m running Void and that uses runit.
if you want to avoid headaches and have a good ecosystem, use OpenRC.

what are y'all's recommendations for alternatives?

SystemD has added birth date storage in order to comply with Brazil and California Age Verification laws. Let that sink in. A Linux init system now handles Age Verification. github.com/systemd/system…

@aliByteCode maybe for an engineer with low empathy, yeah. if you’re the kind of person who can think critically about product design and getting into the head of your potential users, marketing/branding is a breeze.

@Normalssbbbx seeing the insane expression of skill and creativity in Gunz the Duel which had no skill-based matchmaking was a defining experience for me

the sweet spot is before they hire a CFO or if the first time founders have no idea what they're doing.
i've had anything from a $1k card to a $1million card. i've also been the person to add those limits.
i still remember my first job they had to put in a $20 lunch limit because i was showing up and eating 3k calories in one meal while training for indoor track cycling.

@ptaranat Usually there is a pretty low cap on it

that's the consumers perspective. from a producer's perspective, any situation where you completely sell out of supply, assuming it offsets the cost of product development, is a net positive. wotc made a profit on this product. could they have made more profit by printing more to meet demand? yes. would it be worth the effort of finding the exact ideal price/quantity intersection? arguable (diminishing returns).
you would think the simple solution is to put out a pre-order window months in advance and let people put in a deposit or pay full price. in fact, this is how a lot of long lead time manufacturing works.
however, more goes into product development and market research than the average consumer knows about. someone who is paid a lot of money had to figure this out.
usually, companies, especially smaller places with tight margins, will come out and say "hey, we didn't anticipate this massive demand, stay tuned for a potential future re-release". but this sets a precedent. and you can end up tarnishing the brand/product even more.
all this to say that wotc likely hired some ppl with fancy degrees to calculate the amount of ppl they can piss off bc they couldn't buy this product and still make a profit.

@xevo1979 @ptaranat @SaffronOlive I suspect a lot of people understand it and the preference is to print more.
