📖 Glossary: Preconfirmations
In Puffer UniFi AVS, preconfirmations are early, signed commitments about a transaction’s execution, issued by a gateway when it is aligned with upcoming delegated Ethereum proposers, before the transaction is finalized on L1.

Preconfirmations let rollups promise fast execution before an Ethereum block is finalized, but those promises only matter if they’re enforced. UniFi AVS makes preconfirmations credible by having Ethereum validators back them with real ETH at risk, so breaking an execution promise can be slashed.
That’s the difference between “fast because we trust” and “fast because Ethereum enforces it.” 🫡

Preconfirmations let rollups scale execution while Ethereum keeps control. 🧠
UniFi AVS' preconfirmations let rollups deliver fast execution without introducing a centralized sequencer or separate trust domain. Execution commitments are provided ahead of L1 inclusion, while ordering, settlement, and final authority continue to resolve on Ethereum.
This allows rollups to scale execution and reduce latency without outsourcing control, keeping Ethereum as the ultimate source of ordering and economic enforcement. 🐡

⚙️ UniFi AVS moves Ethereum’s guarantees forward in time.
To improve performance for rollups (especially Based Rollups) and abstract away the complexity of L2 block construction, proposer rights for upcoming slots can be delegated to more sophisticated actors, referred to as gateways.
UniFi AVS gateways are scheduled by upcoming L1 proposers via Ethereum’s proposer lookahead. During their assigned slots, gateways receive temporary, exclusive write access to L2 state and can post batches on L1, enabling fast, economically backed preconfirmed execution before final L1 settlement, enforced by Ethereum’s slashing rules.
Faster certainty without changing consensus. 🤝
