You get continuity at a fraction of the cost. Match the model to the task. Haiku costs a fraction of Sonnet, which costs a fraction of Opus. Routine agent tasks — parsing, formatting, simple decisions — don't need the most powerful model. Use the smallest model that gets the job done reliably. Batch short tasks. If you have five quick questions, ask them in one message rather than five sequential turns. Fewer round trips means less accumulated context per answer. Watch output length. Output tokens cost too. Telling Claude to be concise isn't just aesthetic — it's cheaper.
