Anita Ford Saunders is a Democrat running in the 2026 primary challenge against incumbent State Sen. Matt Lesser (D) for Connecticut’s 9th Senate District (covering parts or all of Cromwell, Middletown, Newington, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield). Her campaign launched in early March 2026 with a committee filing on March 2. @CTPoliticsTv On paper I agree but the only people really calling for it are the extreme candidates. Wish we had a lot less of that.

I that scenario its not. But voters who vote tend to know who they want. RCV is for primaries where you may have 3-10 candidates and you can rank them. Maybe you get your second choice instead of ending up with the fringe whacko. And because you are opening it up you generally nominate someone with more appeal to move to the general election. It tends to favor less extreme candidates.

Ranked-Choice Voting, it’s the way to go! Great article in first comment! What I like most about is that it takes much of the nastiness and mudslinging out of campaigning, which most people really dislike. Even if a candidate isn’t a voter’s first choice, they still have a chance of being their second or third pick—so there’s a real incentive to appeal to a broader range of voters, not just their own party. That’s how campaigning should work anyway, but too often it doesn’t. “Top choice: Having candidates to vote for rather than against. Choice #2: Having more candidates to choose among. Choice #3: Being able to vote for more than one candidate, in order of preference.
