These days I seem to be repeatedly asking myself, "What in the world is all of this about?" But the answer is probably too big for me, I'm just a little pig.

The "Shadowless Church" (无影教堂 / Wú yǐng jiàotáng) in Chengdu, China, is a very singular and mediatic contemporary work, designed by the West-line Studio (led by architect Haobo Wei and Jingsong Xie). Built in 2015-2016 in the rural area of Pingle Ancient Town, it went viral for its ethereal appearance and its concept of “disappearing” into the landscape. Its use is as a local Protestant Christian church + community and tourist space. The material is polished white concrete (almost reflective) + tempered glass on the sides and in the upper “crack.” It is a work that plays radically with light and perception—a building that “disappears” by design, using white concrete and pure geometry. I'm fascinated by that extreme and almost illusory minimalism.
