Anyone looking for an experienced Haskell, senior software engineer? I'm open to full-time, part-time, contract remote work. Please don't make me learn TypeScript 🙏

Ok, that might have been a bit premature. Worked fine when I was at home and plugged in to power and the external monitor, but when I left and wasn't plugged in to anything the laptop locked up.

Ok, I've got the nvidia driver working and my external monitor being used. I punted on that complicated "offload" setup and just went for having the nvidia card in use all the time. Here are the @system76 Gazelle specific bits github.com/purefn/dot-fil…

I cannot recommend against using @wix enough. They have terrible support and are shady as hell. Stay away!

According to the IRS I did have left my ex destitute when we separated in 2017 instead of paying her an agreed on alimony before the divorce was finalized. Real classy.

@purefn Would getting documentation and binaries to host it work?

If nothing else, most of the @cachix_org value is in garbage collection. You'd be surprised how hard it is to pull it off, hitting all kinds of bugs (nix loops endlessly, errors due to local cache mismatches, etc). GC least recently used entries and your cache is on auto pilot.

@domenkozar I have been spending the last week implementing cache consistency checking and safe purging. I'd love to be able to use cachix, but it would only be possible if we could host the server on our own hardware.

Sometimes I wonder why some rather spend all this time instead of paying 39 EUR/mo, but then we're nearing 11TB of storage so that group may be smaller than one thinks :)

What's the right way to remove bar files from a nix cache? So far I've got: find nar files not accessed in 30 days. Find the narinfo files that have it as URL. Look at narfiles for References field. If those files have bit been accessed in 30 days, check their references.

I'm other news that only I care about: after my back surgery early last year and various shoulder and elbow problems, I'm finally starting to regain some strength. My bench presses are higher than they've ever been. I'm going slow with my squats, but they're getting there.

I have spare time this weekend for the first time in ages. That means today I switch to home-manager and tomorrow I switch to zfs and erase my darlings grahamc.com/blog/erase-you…

@seanparsons there are several of us at work hoping it forces the powers that be to allow us to use Linux for just that reason

Looking forward to all those enthusiastic MacBook buyers realising that it could well stuff their use of Docker when Apple switches them to ARM.

@nuttycom I get sad when I encounter a sentiment of "you're either on the right side, or the wrong side, or apathetic which is the same as being on the wrong side." We're removing forums for empathetically rational discourse, when I really think that's what the world needs the most.

It was about this time in 2016 that the political atmosphere planted the seed in many of my friends that there was no way he could win. So come November they decided not to vote. It's happening again. Even with the pandemic, protests and unemployment he has a very real chance.

Any one remember that scene in The Dead Zone where Martin Sheen is the president and we see him having a total mental break and pushing the red button? For some reason, that's on my mind this morning.
