Big Ed will 1) continue to demand more state and federal funds - like here in Virginia even while increasing tuition and fees and room & board (jacking up mandatory taxes for college professional athletics) - and 2) lower academic standards in order to make enrollment targets. The elites and tier one institutions will be fine. It’s the second, third, and fourth tier institutions that will continue to fight for table scraps and otter “merit based scholarships,” which are complete bullshit. They’re discounts - discounts for a family wanting to get a 15 year old Subaru with 150,000 miles on it, instead of the brand new Defender.

All true and well said. One, there were more than a few Republicans who went along with the K-12 lobby too. Sadly. Two, all you just wrote applies to Big Ed too. And many House and Senate Republicans played as much (if not more) footsie with higher ed and its outsized lobby than it did with K-12. Too many still do. And no matter how hard Republican elected and GOP lobbyists and special interest groups try to make Big Ed love them. . . Never. Gonna. Happen. Not sure if it’s more unrequited love or just pathetic cuckoldry. Regardless, it’s both painful and comical to behold.

Many will not like reading this, but it's a fact. Having served 4 years on the Education Committee in the Virginia House of Delegates, I can tell you that there is no school district in the Commonwealth, no matter how rural or conservative, that Democrats are not trying to mandate indoctrination that runs contrary to your principles. Thats not hyperbolic, it's reality. They don't call it indoctrination, because they don't see it that way. They see it as correcting the mistakes of your parenting, which in their view is not "progressive or tolerant" enough. And since they don't have enough of their own kids to win elections, they need yours to "think correctly" about these things before they reach voting age. So in their view this is essential to "preserve our democracy." Make sense now? Now someone will read this and ask me "why didn't you fix it?" And the answer is simple...because we never had sufficient votes to get the legislation passed. It wasn't for lack of submitting bills and fighting for them, not a single Democrat would vote for any of it and as long as they controlled just one part of the legislative process they could prevent all of it, because thats how the system works. In my entire 10 years in the General Assembly there wasn't a single year where they didn't at least control one part of the process. But now nothing is preventing them...because they have the votes and they control the entire process.

More of this please. We have far too many small, liberal arts private colleges and too many medium and large public colleges and universities. Enrollment remains down. More and more Americans - especially young men - want to go into the trades, advanced manufacturing, start their own businesses, etc. Many state governments - and the federal government - have removed college degree requirements for many of their government jobs. The “Four Year Degree of Bust” message has been obliterated. Yes, certain degrees for certain kids at certain schools remains essential. But not everyone needs a degree. Or the debt. Or the questionable job prospects. There are options. Alternatives exist. We need to stop propping up every school. They’re not all “too big to fail.” Not at all.

Hampshire College made a big deal about offering spots to all of the left-wing New College of Florida students who wanted to leave after we eliminated their DEI and gender studies programs. Now Hampshire College is shutting down—go woke, go broke.
