@nickstrong This same thing can essentially happen at any school. Doesn’t even have to be D1 Top D2s & NAIAs will probably get some of these guys & kids will lose their spot also. It’s just enhanced at the D1 level.

College baseball doesn’t make the world go round, but the timing of this ruling is unfortunate for senior college baseball players who, without any leverage, signed pro contracts for non-livable wages

What's next now that the District of Colorado said all Class of 2022 athletes get a 5th year? The NCAA will almost certainly petition the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals for permission to appeal the class certification under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23(f), which allows such a petition within 14 days. I don't expect the NCAA to wait that long. The NCAA will also likely ask the district court judge for a stay of the orders pending appeal under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 62(d). If declined, the NCAA will probably take that request directly to the Tenth Circuit under Federal Rule of Appellate Procedure 8. The preliminary injunction itself is immediately appealable as of right under 28 U.S.C. § 1292(a)(1) and no permission is required. The NCAA can be in front of the Tenth Circuit on the injunction alone within days. The timing compounds all of this. The injunction takes effect immediately. Thus, expect the NCAA to file, as soon as today, an emergency motion for a stay and for the Tenth Circuit may grant an administrative stay to preserve the status quo while it considers the motion, which courts routinely do without any assessment of the merits at all. The NCAA has real arguments on a stay motion. One such basis is that there is a clear circuit split on whether eligibility rules are even "commercial" restraints under antitrust law. That could make an appellate court more willing to intervene. All of this is to say, once again, this is a massive ruling at the federal level. But it would be premature for athletes across the country to prepare to return to school until there is more clarity. In the meantime, we will keep bringing cases in state courts to better ensure Class of 2022 athletes are eligible this coming season.

@TCalBIP The ruling changes things for players that used 4 years of eligibility in 4 years. Those players made the decision to not use a redshirt, and got the same 4 seasons of college ball that that every player for 100+ years got.

These kids are just getting a 5th year in total, how redshirt players get 5 total. According to you and others, Joe Burrow, Jayden Daniels, Malcolm Rodriguez and Jermaine Johnson should be in a cubicle. Arguably all of them could’ve been undrafted if not for 5th year.
